    Wonderful economic history of Argentina

I think the main thing is that foreigners/expats here have the option to leave if we want to, so we're lucky enough to get the best of both worlds. If things really do become unbearable here there are better places that we could go/return to, it just so happens that at this moment in time we...

    Wonderful economic history of Argentina

I was never particularly sociable back home but since moving here for some reason I've managed to build up quite a decent circle of friends, both Argentines and foreigners. Sure, some of them probably still see me as more of an 'outsider' but I enjoy myself, so what the heck. Not to mention...

BA Real Estate market to take a dive before the end of the year.

While some properties are gonna drop 30% in dollars I don't think this applies to most properties... at least not within the next few months (within the next few years, possibly). Think about it, if you have an apartment worth 400k in a good location in Palermo would you really be willing to...

    Western Union money transfer

Thanks! I've never actually been to the main office (never knew of its existence until i came to this thread) so my max transfer amount has been like 1k USD, i might try to transfer 3-4k as it seems like the rate has stabilised somewhat...

Is there a way to get USD in BA?

If anything it is the AFIP and the BCRA who are 'gaming' the money of all 40 million argentinian citizens.

Is there a way to get USD in BA?

Exactly. Yeah, sure, the owner might be a rich guy with loads of properties to rent out, but on the other hand it could also just be some middle class Argentine who happens to be lucky enough to own a second property. Given that the vast majority of us here are paying a lot less in rent compared...

    Western Union money transfer

Do you happen to know what the actual limit for cash withdrawals is at the main WU place? The WU site from my country allows up to 5000 USD (but I'm obviously skeptical that they'll be ready to give me 600,000 pesos), and I'll need to transfer a significant amount in the next week or so to pay...

    March against Communism

The example of becoming a farmer in texas is just one of the endless opportunities that American doctors have. I would also expect most people to agree with me when I say that Cuban doctors, or Cubans in general, enjoy far less opportunities and have much more restricted choices with what they...

    March against Communism

Yes, those young US doctors will indeed be able to pay off their loans in 3 years because they'll be making those 200k back easily within a year or two, and then they are free to do whatever they want with their lives, whether it be continuing to practise as a doctor or become a farmer in rural...

Transferring money into Argentina to buy a flat

Update for anyone whose still interested: I've decided to delay the purchase as I found a really nice apartment for rent, and with the WU USD-peso rate approaching 110 it's only going to cost around 500USD/month and at this price I simply can't be bothered to go through the process of buying...

    Western Union money transfer

Is the 60k peso limit the max you can receive in cash per day? Is that a WU rule or a correos thing?

BA Real Estate market to take a dive before the end of the year.

Couldn't agree more. I think a lot of people underestimate the difficulties of emigrating, especially as a lower/middle class worker. For many/most of us here we're lucky in the sense that we're relatively well-off and don't necessarily have to work or find a well paid job to maintain a decent...

Transferring money into Argentina to buy a flat

I've mainly just used zonaprop, for each listing they have phone numbers of the estate agent or alternatively if you hate calling (like I do) it lets you send them an email and in my experience about 1/2 of the agents have replied (either via email or whatsapp). It also lets you sort by...

Blue Rate has now hit 100 per dollar

Like garryl I'm also ethnically Chinese (but I was born and grew up in Europe) and I've been there enough times to know what's going on, I think that many westerners (I don't mean this in a discriminatory way, but especially those on the 'left' of the political spectrum in Europe) either have no...

Transferring money into Argentina to buy a flat

Another update: they told me it could be only done electronically (i.e. I need to have a USD bank account here in Argentina for them to transfer the USD into), so it seems that they must've changed the policy regarding handing over hundreds of thousands in USD cash. My account at Banco ciudad is...

Transferring money into Argentina to buy a flat

An update for anyone interested: I got in touch with Casa Puente and they charge a total of 1% to essentially transfer USD from overseas to Argentina. Seems pretty decent and certainly less than what my cueva charges (I asked and they said it'd be around 2%).
