    Volunteering...

Hmmm shame about such a negative experience with L.I.F.E. That said, the format seems to now be a one-time donation of 25-50$ USD which doesn't really strike me as a cash-grab. I've seen several volunteer placement agencies that charge hundred of dollars. While short training may not be...

does such a place exist in buenos aires?

I second the suggestion of Home. It's a great place to stay and I was certainly pleasantly surprised at their green efforts.

    Volunteering...

I'm looking for two types of volunteering experiences, and any organizations that anyone has personally been involved with. 1) for myself, somewhere I could spend a few hours a week. I could help out with lessons in English, French, basic computer skills, that type of thing. I also really like...

    One Night in Recoleta

LOL, I get it L_K_P. Since reading what happened to Matt I'm sure a lot of us are feeling a little extra paranoid/alarmed/alert... Good on ya for making fun of yourself for it ;-)

American hair dresser from San Francisco

Why all the antipathy? Personally, I appreciate someone who is upfront about their prices, whatever they are. I also don't expect all hairdressers to charge the same price - that doesn't make one better than the other. And lastly, why does this hairdresser earn scorn for his prices when...

    Brutally Beaten in Recoleta

Matt, so sorry to hear about this - but glad that you are ok, overall. Thanks for posting. It's easy to think, in any city in the world, that your behaviour can affect whether or not you are the victim of crime, when the reality is that it's far more haphazard than we'd like to think.

    Wine Tasting Anyone?

Hi, Could you please post a more complete description of the event, ie what types of wines, how many, who is hosting, cost to attend, and so forth. I don't think too many people would be inclined to sign up for something so vague.

Good Laundrymat / Fluff and Fold in San Telmo

Not sure where you are but we really like this place that is approx 440 Brasil (just 1/4 block in from Defensa). It's 10 pesos, washed & folded, in 2 hours. Although lately they are closing early for holidays, around 3 pm but I think normally they are open until about 8.

Getting out of town: suggestions for day trips

Any suggestions on fun places to go for the day, be it to do a bit of tourism/walking around, photography - or just chilling somewhere different (eg day resorts with pools or near water). Have heard of some places around Tigre - any others ...?

How to negotiate a job offer?

Ultimately, it really does depend on what you're bringing to the table. Obviously a priority for you is the ability to go visit your family in Europe and have the time to do so. Be clear that this is your priority. To accomplish this, I would note that the salary is a little low however don't...

    Peruvian restaurants

I have a globetrotting friend who is convinced Peruvian food could be the 'next' Thai food in terms of popularity. In Canada, we have loads of 'fast food' Thai counters and such - he thinks Peruvian could be the next. Thanks for all the recs. Ryoga, could you indeed elaborate on 'unreal' ? :)

    Winter Olympics

Some days I even miss the snow. Will probably get over that in a week once I'm living with air conditioning. Definitely up for watching the games somewhere.

    Hola, hows life in BA?

I think the advice here is quite good... for someone like me. I like restaurants, clubs/dancing, going out for drinks, activities (requiring entrance fees), and so forth. Plus - a fair amount of taxis at night to go to and from (daytime I'm fine with public transport). I do all of that at home...

Anyone have a colourist they adore ?

Looking for haircolourist love here. Highlights. No caps, foil only. Would love Redken colour products although Aveda could be ok, too. Full-service salon (mani/pedi for my friend/guest). No problem paying for quality - quite confident even pricier places in BA will be a deal compared to home...

Export & Import Business in Argentina

I did some research into export myself at one point. I do think there are some interesting opportunities however it only becomes interesting once you are dealing with a fairly sizeable scale and if you can find the right product. Something like custom boots - shipped individually - would be a...

Haiti?? How can we help from buenos aires

Unless you have specific types of medical experience, the only/best thing people can do for Haiti is donate funds. Two extremely well-respected organizations who already have extensive and current experience in Haiti are: a) Partners In Health and, b) Red Cross Note: Any Canadians who make...
