Newbie Saying Hello And Asking For Advice

I did the same thing, more or less, my first trip to BA... crazy, isn't it? The exchange rate is low, the bank fees are high, there are limits to what you can take out of the ATMs... I would go to Uruguay (Colonia or Montevideo) and take USD out of the ATMs there, and then exchange them for...

    Arriving In '14 - Already With ~2 Questions . . . For Now .

I'm Canadian also and spend my time in Montreal (where I teach) and BA (where I do research)... You might like the Biblioteca Nacional in Recoleta: http://www.bn.gov.ar Horrible architecture (reminds me of Montreal's Bibliotheque national) but the views from the upper floors are nice. I...

Dating For Women In The Their 40S?

My friends and I call it "LA face" (as in Los Angeles) when the Botox and fillers are out of control. I notice it a lot in New York as well, specifically the Upper East Side. The women look horrible as a result of all of that surgery. I think maybe minor adjustments might be okay, but for all...

Dating For Women In The Their 40S?

Shoush, you are from Canada aren't you? Do you find it any different there? Don't Canadian men also prefer younger women?

Dating For Women In The Their 40S?

I was thinking about dating in general, not necessarily dating someone younger. Honestly, I would prefer someone my age or older (40+)!

Dating For Women In The Their 40S?

The other thread is about men in the 40s looking for women in Argentina. The poster says that he is looking for a place to live and a place where he can find a (female) partner. What about the reverse? What are the prospects for women in their 40s looking for men?

    ATM in Uruguay for dollars

ARbound-- I'm with CIBC in Canada. I was only able to take out $300 USD at a time and I paid approximately $10 CDN per transaction ($5 to Uruguay, $5 to Canada) and was only able to take out $300 USD at a time. I also took out the equivalent of about $100 in Uruguayan pesos. So I paid about...

Amount Of Time To Spend In Uruguay

I would go to Seacat on Cordoba... the last time I bought a ticket (August?), it was quite a bit cheaper than the prices listed online. I think 2 nights/3 days is sufficient if you are just touring. I quite liked Montevideo although I was there on a Sunday... it felt like a ghost town.

Obamacare: Do Expats Need To Buy Health Insurance?

I teach a course on the history of political ideologies-- in Canada, where we are constantly exposed to US media and US political discourse, plus of course deal with our own problems-- and it is crazy how much time I have to spend on clarifying what "socialism" is and is not... ditto for...

Obamacare: Do Expats Need To Buy Health Insurance?

No, your friend is not an anomaly. My best friend was also diagnosed with breast cancer at age 35. In Montreal (where the film Barbarian Invasions takes place). Her treatment took about 18 months in total and there was no wait time to speak of. She started treatment about two weeks after...

    Looking For A Spanish Tutor

I have had the same tutor for over a year now and I pay $20 USD per hour, paid into a USD account in Florida. I don't know what he charges in pesos but I think the going rate is about 100 pesos/hour. At the language schools, private lessons were on average $25-30 USD/hour. I found the...

    Who Is An "american?"

To be a Canadian is to not be an American. We distinguish ourselves via "toque" (hat) or "voyage" (travel) or whatever... maybe south-pole and north-pole. ajoknoblauc

    Who Is An "american?"

I am Canadian and would never, ever refer to myself as American! The Canadian identity-- such as it is-- is built on the fact that "we are not American."

    Yoga Studio Reviews

I went to the Buenos Aires Life Center and thought it was great. The classes were small and the instructors fantastic. The location was also good as I lived close by... Plus they had two classes per day.

Gift Delivery In Argentina (Ordered From Abroad)?

I just returned to Canada after yet another three months in Buenos Aires and I would like to send a thank you gift to my lovely, lovely hosts. Obviously, I should have bought them something prior to leaving but, well, I didn't think of it! Would it be possible to order something online from...

    Colonia Express Vs Buquebus

I took Seacat from BA to Colonia and then the bus for the rest of the trip to Montevideo. I don't remember exactly how much it cost, but I bought the ticket in the physical office (not online, on Cordoba and approx. Esmerelda) and it was much, much cheaper (like 150-200 pesos cheaper).
