Three Days/four Nights, Where To Go?

I spent two weeks in Asuncion last year and I quite liked it, after awhile. But really, there's not much to see or do-- you can tour the entire city in an afternoon. That said, the countryside is beautiful too, it might be worth it to rent a car and visit the various pueblos. I would...

    Anyone Traveling To Toronto, Canada?

This is a great article, thank you! And while clearly Professor Frampton is a bit of an idiot (no matter how smart), it serves as an excellent reminder as to why a person should never carry someone else's bags.

Need A Good Spanish Intensive Curse, Any Recommendation?

I also switched to a private teacher and find that my Spanish has improved immensely because of the personal attention. As mmoon says, private lessons are much more effective and you really do save a lot of time and money. Plus, the classes can be tailored to your specific interests. That...

    Looking For French Teacher

I will be returning to BA in about two months and I am hoping to take private French lessons while I am there... two hours per week for a bit grammar, conversation and Voltaire's Candide. I would say that I'm mid-high intermediate. I'm an anglophone that lives and works in Montreal and I've...

Need A Good Spanish Intensive Curse, Any Recommendation?

There are usually "intensive" options at the language schools, which is four hours a day in a group class and then two hours a day with an individual teacher. So, that's six hours a day! Which is exhausting. Many schools also have a bunch of add-ons, like tango or museum visits or whatever...

Need A Good Spanish Intensive Curse, Any Recommendation?

I studied at IBL and enjoyed the classes, though ultimately I'm not sure how much I got out of it. It cost about $200USD/week for 20 hours (4 hours per day).

Dating In Argentina / Dating Argentine Men

Thanks citygirl! Some of the postings here are obviously a bit too general and don't take individual personalities into account. I'm presently in North America and was chatting with my friend last night, telling her about this wonderful ARG man that I met in BA. She immediately assumed that...

Dating In Argentina / Dating Argentine Men

I'm going to avoid commenting on the prostitution debate and instead thank the OP for her question. And also steveinbas for the links! What a hilarious bunch of threads! I don't have much to say about dating Argies, but one thing I've noticed is that the drinking culture is different.

    Private Lessons In Spanish

The average rate at a school seems to be $25 USD per hour (one-on-one). Right now, I'm paying $20 USD per hour, but I'm not actually in BA right now and my lessons are via Skype (so I transfer money to my teacher's US account). In BA, for private lessons in a cafe, I was paying about $15 USD...

Great Article, "The Beautiful Game: Soccer Violence in Argentina"

I really enjoyed this article, October 2012: "In Argentina, rival soccer fans don’t just hate, they kill, and the violent partisans of top clubs fuel crime syndicates that influence the sport at its highest levels. Patrick Symmes braves the bottle rockets, howling mobs, urine bombs, and drunken...

Advice needed on web site and suburb

I used bastay.com to find two apartments and I didn't have any problems with them. I reserved and paid the deposit (via paypal) from Canada-- the apartments were both great, considering what I paid for them. And the locations were good (Centro and Recoleta). A representative of bastay.com...

    a question for canadian expats.

I didn't know it was so hard... considering the newspapers are filled with stories about how we need more immigrants. And are you should she can't visit on a tourist visa? In Quebec, there is a program for international students. Basically, if your girlfriend does a degree at a QC...

I agree with Iznogud-- the Biblioteca Nacional was great, especially on the higher floors. A wonderful view, it was pretty quiet, etc. I actually got a lot done there.
