    Why are Argentines so Angry?

They seem sweet enough to me. Perhaps they are just frowning at the tens of thousands of expats who are living in their city, yet seem to hate it here. As far as I know, none of us were brought here in a cargo hold.

    Paying rent in dollars

Alternately, if you're a CitiGold member, you can transfer money to a foreign account (your landlord, or perhaps a willing friend with an Argentine account) for a $20 fee. Even better, if you're paying dollars-to-dollars, you don't lose any money on the conversion.

    Moleskin

Haven't been able to figure out way to receive mail -- I'm in a sublet, and moving into another one for the next six months. Any ideas, or know of a place where I can buy it in person?

    Why not Belgrano?

My impression was the Belgrano was more expensive than Palermo.

Buying a flight on the day of travel

A few nights ago an Argentine was saying that there's no benefit to buying early on an Argentine airlines because prices don't go up, because Argentines always do everything at the last moment. I can not vouch for it, and you'd have to take Aerolineas, but who knows.

Best wifi cafes? (esp. in Palermo?)

I take it back about Mamaracha. The place is great, but I brought my work and the Wifi was weak at best.

Best wifi cafes? (esp. in Palermo?)

I also like Mamaracha on Costa Rica and Armenia. It's got terrific food and decent wifi (I've seen people use Skype on it, and there generally seem to be a good amount of people with computers).

    out of frustration!!

I think it's to be expected. You go to events, you meet people, but you've got to expect that it's going to be lonely when you first move to a new place. I mean, part of the reason that I came here was to challenge myself. If I wanted to have a thousand best friends without working for it, I...

Can someone explain why they have seventeen types of whisky, ten types of sweet vermouth and an unlimited variations on dulce de leche but no tequila in supermarkets? This city is great, but sometimes I go nuts.

Experience Renting from Non-Expat Rental Agencies

I've been looking at local sites in Castellano for furnished rental apartments (Alquiler Temporario) and I have been seeing prices that are significantly cheaper than sites that are more oriented to ex-pats (that is, in English). Does anyone have experience renting non-traditionally in BA? For a...

    cocktails

I've only been to Milion in the Recoleta, though it's not terribly cheap. There was a thread earlier that referred to Godoy (?) on Godoy Cruz and Paraguay as a good place though.

Can obtaining hot water be a major problem?

Yeah -- I had to relight the pilot in mine as well a few days after arriving. The pilot light wouldn't stay on at first and only did so when after turning on the water (to activate the non-pilot flame).

    Bank Account.

The secret to Citigold is that you actually don't need to have near that much cash. There is a fee of $25 per month if you are under balance (and that can be any amount -- I think you just need to have like $US1000 in the account) and that fee is waived for the first six months anyhow.
