Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

Back to original topic about auto parts, as someone that doesn't really know much about cars, I was speaking with a friend at the gomeria here, and he was telling me how although the price per km might work out the same between chinese tires and the major foreign brands, the difference was: 1)...

Has Argentina Become Worse Or Better for Foreign Retirees recently?

As much as there were some similarities, I don't think it extended across the board. Inflation was around 18-25% annually. This was also during and after Iran crisis. In the 80s in Canada inflation was up to ~13%. Mortgage rates were over 15%. Callaghan (prime minister before thatcher) already...

If you rent out your apartment, what is the commission?

If all she is doing is setting up the contract then offer her one month. If she is going to actually managing it in case things go wrong then she to like 8.33% (1 month annually). If not tell her you will get another agent. At some point you have to be willing to walk away. Otherwise she has...

Has Argentina Become Worse Or Better for Foreign Retirees recently?

There was a world trade center bombing in 1993 6 dead and over a thousand injured. In 1995 there was the Oklahoma city bombing and Columbine in 1999. Does that mean the US wasn't a safe place to be? I wouldn't suggest singular events necessarily determine a countries safety level.

Was Britain in the same situation as Argentina?

If you rent out your apartment, what is the commission?

I am not in CABA but the interior, and it seems like regardless of contract length (1,2 year, 6 months) or whether its a new contract or just extension, the agents want 1 month rent. In the end, if she thinks she is the only one she can be firm. Realistically, 1 month a year is pretty standard...

Has Argentina Become Worse Or Better for Foreign Retirees recently?

History may repeat itself if one doesn't learn from it and just repeats it. This government has taken a drastically different approach than those in the past trying to return to a balanced budget by implementing austerity measures as well as making significant changes to the structure of the...

    Disappointed with Food in Argentina

I think a sense of what is your comfort food may be shaped by foods you had when you were younger, but ingredients have changed such that same products are no longer the same due to substitutions like high fructose corn syrup and others for the sake of profits have really lowered their quality...

    Precaria Renewal Question

I would recommend going to the office. I think they would be able to renew it in the spot. If your lucky they might actual check the stage and status of the process and approve it.

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

I'm surprised the number of sales for the Hilux isn't higher honestly. Its for both business and personal use and the quality is unmatched. It would do a lot of damage to Ford, Chevy, GMC if allowed to enter the North American market.

Has Argentina Become Worse Or Better for Foreign Retirees recently?

Its understandable that foreigners opinion and preferences can be shaped by the Blue Dollar. It directly impacts the cost of living. But the point being highlighted, is that you have an individual desiring both a more valuable Blue Dollar rate (ideally to return to the multiple value over the...

Banned from entry for 8 years

This is extremely reasonable policy. Many countries may not let you enter if your passport is within 6 months of expiry.

Probably worth paying for a spare luggage and getting 23kg or oversize 32kg on your flight with you.

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

    1) it was a motorcycle, so far fewer components. 2) the components are likely shipped from overseas and assembled here in argentina 3) Argentina has higher IVA (21%), it has effectively 4-5% Gross Tax vale (between provincial and account credit/withdrawal tax). So one line item might be more and...

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

There is a condition in CUSMA that the labour content of 40-45% for passenger vehicles and 45% for trucks must be performed in a high labour cost country (Canada/US) where the wage is $16/h or higher. So although the competition isn't on the labour cost portion of the vehicle, the US still...

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

carride, I agree with you. 1) The other thing is the US price also doesn't include all the taxes, delivery, registration, dealer charges etc. So you need to add those on as well. 2) I also found when buying a motorcycle the costs ending up being fairly similar once all the charges were included.

Argentina's auto parts industry feels the pain from shock therapy

Another aspect that would be interesting would be to know if these are equal configurations and builds. ie, same number of airbags, auto ignition shutdown/startup at red lights etc. Those features that are included in other countries might not be required/included in Argentina, which would make...

Argentines Keep Cash Under Mattresses As Milei Pushes Bank Accounts

Agree. This isn't some conspiracy. There is a small detail though and I don't really know it. Not all capital is treated equally though. In Argentina, there are separate laws regarding how banks can treat USD deposit and if and how they are allowed to loan in USD. There was an article about one...
