Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

In 2002/2003 the Brazilian Real reached R$4/ $1 USD when it appeared Lula would win and the market thought he might be Hugo Chavez 2.0; by 2008 the currency had strengthen to R$1.6 per $1 USD while nominal prices in R$ went up about 50% in that time frame. So a dinner that cost R$100 ($25...

Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

Milei haș been president for only four months plus one week. The inflation we have experienced is not even close to the highest inflation ever experienced here or anywhere else; in 1989 it was 2000% annually. The public sector is simple going to have to get used to living within the means...

Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

What I have been saying for months and many of you folks have been failing to understand is that Argentina is only cheap in dollars when there are politically caused price distortions and FX controls that result in a big spread between official and parallel FX rates. In the years when that was...

Can you hold a driver's license from US, if you live abroad?

If you are paying Georgia state income taxes and have a mailing address you are a resident of Georgia and entitled to a drivers license, end of story. The fact that you are overseas for some amount of time doesn't matter.

How much more are you paying for your health (prepaga) insurance?

I do not think it is more expensive than the USA but keep in mind the following: OSDE 450 is essentially a "Cadillac" plan; there are no extra costs other than the monthly payment, the most doctors accept the plan, and if you need to be hospitalized you get a private room at all the best...

Selling gold and silver coins for apartment

If you see my post at the beginning of this thread you will see that Argentina is among the WORST place to SELL Gold coins and probably the BEST place to BUY gold coins/bars. In the years when gold was blatantly undervalued I personally negotiated and purchased many, many Krugerrands, Eagles...

Selling gold and silver coins for apartment

Morgan and Peace dollars are made of silver and I'd never bother with that so I'm not sure what they sell for ($25/oz silver vs $2185/oz gold). Asking prices on MercadoLibre are not even close to reflecting actual buying/selling prices in the gold district around Libertad or in the backrooms...

Selling gold and silver coins for apartment

Argentina is probably the best place in the world to BUY gold coins/bars but unfortunately NOT to sell gold coins/ bars. Gold coins/bars can be bought using USD cash anywhere from spot to 15% UNDER spot. Selling I would expect at least a 15-20% haircut below spot.

How much more are you paying for your health (prepaga) insurance?

Just received an email from OSDE that bill will be going up another 14% next month. So plan 450 will clock in at about 734k pesos for two people.

Obras Sociales when retired with pre-existing medical conditions?

Now is most definitely not the time to come to live in Argentina for a senior citizen with health issues who is not independently wealthy. Everything in terms of prices is in flux and what is true today could be completely different in a few weeks or months. This is a revolutionary moment in...

    WiFi disaster

The OP is clearly confused and is commingling "Wifi" and "Data network for mobile phone", both of which are ways of connecting to the internet. Wifi is a wireless internet network that is broadcast from a router that is either hooked up to a hardwired modem or a hardwired router/modem combo...

Is the Milei "Transformation" Failing Already?

These are still very early days to be able to judge whether Milei is going to succeed or not. If Milei can stay in office long enough to have beaten inflation and achieved monetary stability (whether through dollarization or otherwise) he will be successful. The measures he is taking to...

Any ideas why the blue and MEP rates have dropped so much this month?

As I've stated before, I think a lot of folks on this forum are of the mindset that the state of equilibrium of the Argentine economy is that it is place that is naturally cheap in USD. That is only the case when draconian currency/ capital controls are in place that distort relative prices...

All the tariff increases that arrive in September

Toyota RAV 4 ( 50% more than USA) Toyota Corolla Cross (sort of SUV, same price as USA) Ford Kuga (sold in USA as Ford Escape, 50% more than in USA) Toyota Corolla sedan hybrid also sold at same price as in USA. If I was in the market for a compact sedan or compact crossover I would buy a...

All the tariff increases that arrive in September

Don't want to pay patente in CABA? Buy a hybrid ! Toyota sells a few hybrid models here for similar money to USA prices (for the corollas ) and Ford sells an Escape Hybrid as well. Hybrids and electric cars pay $0 patente in CABA and many other provinces. For the uninformed, patente equals...
