Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

I'm in BA right now and gonna try it and report back so we can get some data points... --since now the official rate is much closer to the MEP rate, it's not too bad a rate if it doesn't work.

Yeah I understand that. My example like emirates (Dubai owned) uses Argentina’s payment processor when the country is switched to Argentina. It all depends on the airline if they uses it or not.

It needs to be processed through an Argentina payment processor. Some airlines use that, like avianca, emirates.

Seems like mastercard is charging the mep rate and not the official rate, so I'm guessing no rebate anymore? It would be good considering the crazy spikes made the exchange crappy sometimes when the rebate hits a few days later.

Yes, I buy flights from jetsmart/aerolineas in the US and get the mep rates, just have to set it to ARS currency.

edit- misread your post, but yes you can purchase things abroad (without VPN, depending on the site) and it will work... as long as it's processed in argentine pesos and in argentina

I think the easiest solution to this problem would be asking them for a refund on the visa and charging to your MC.

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

Last time I used a visa (last month) the pending charge was the official rate until it gets posted at the MEP rate, there is no refund, only for mastercard (and Amex) it does that. Am I missing something?

Yes, for me it took about 9 days for Amex to post the rebate. my charge was in March, so maybe they sped things up.

So today I checked the Amex card and I did indeed got a refund. It is labeled as New Merchant, about 43% of the original charge back ($107.11). Took 9 days to process though.

For Master Card, as long as the charge is in ARS and charged with a merchant processor within Argentina, it will get the MEP rate I think. Did your Capital One purchase detail have something like CAPITAL FEDER, 001 C1205BCA ARG? JetSmart and Aerolineas you just need to select Argentina and it...

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

No Amex refund since March 13th, and no MEP refund for purchasing in ARS outside Argentina.

Foreign credit cards purchases at MEP rate

Still nothing yet since the 13th. On another question, anyone know if being charged ARS outside Argentina triggers the MEP rate?

Can you update the refund %? I did a test charge on my Amex in pesos which was posted today on my account, so I can update later too if anyone wants to know
