Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let anyone know that is either currently waiting on their precarious residency to turn into temporary residency or they are planning on becoming a resident of Argentina in the near future that an agent at the Migraciones branch in Quilmes told me that the current expected waiting time would be 12-15 months. She told me that she had recently renewed someone's precarious residency for the 5th time.

Definitely a bummer, but there are a lot of people waiting in line. I got married to my wife (an argentine) in late August, started my precarious residency in early October, and I was hoping to have my temporary residency by now so that I could get a DNI. Sucks that the laws changed and I don't immediately have citizenship by marriage, but it is what it is.

Does anyone know the process for getting a DNI as a temporary resident? Can I start the process with my precarious residency to maybe reduce the time between the two?

Unless something has changed recently, you should automatically recieve your DNI "shortly" after your temporary residency is approved. Meanwhile, you may be able to to get a temporary CUIL/CUIT from ANSES that has 11 digets.

Then you might be able to use it (without the first two or the last diget) to be able to use it (for example) to create a Mercado Libre account, but this is just something that occured to me after reading your post and remembering a post that it is possible to get a temporary CUIL with a precaria.

I think that post was in regard to a precaria for a "work" visa, but I am not certain. Hopefully other members can provide additional information.

I kid you not. My girlfriend received her dni temporary this morning. It took four months using our lawyer.

Personally I moved here on sept 2024, and I'm still on Precaria, literally.
But this can vary case by case, some lucky one can get it under six months.

We used a lawyer. We had to file an amparo with a judge.
After waiting 120 days, from filing, which came after 3 years of pensionista visas, you can file with a judge, and he tells migraciones, enough already, and within two weeks we got our residency. Our lawyer told us Milei has fired everbody but two employees the office that does this, and they are backed up 6 to 9 months. So we would have had to wait until june or later.
This is why we found a lawyer to be totally worth it.
Currently DNI cards are taking 60 to 90 days, although, this being Argentina, anything can happen.

When you have a precaria, you may be able to get a one year dni tarjeta. But when your actual residency comes thru, you get a permanent one. Its been a pain getting a dni after 4 months of waiting, which then expires in 8 months. Mercado libre doesn’t care, but some things wont let you register or make a purchase with an expired dni.

Why would you not be eligible for permanent residency with an Argentinian wife? Have things changed that much?

If I understand correctly, based on what I've read about the recent changes, being married to an Argentine citizen now only makes a foreigner eligible for temporary residency, which will become permanent on the third renewal of the temporary residency.

I believe that a foreigner who has a three year temporary residency and is married to an Argentine citizen should be able to apply for permanent residency at the end of the third year period, even if they would not be eligible to renew their three year temporary residency.
