20% Surcharge For Travel

What if I buy a ticket EZE to Spain on LAN.com or Iberia.com with my Argy partner's credit card ; don't those websites charge in ARG pesos if leaving form here?

Does not matter if the prices are advertised in USD or ARS - the 20% will be added. The withholding is on any international travel.

People seems to not understand this lol

Think it is more of they don't want to.

Yes he pays 20% surcharge

Just got a confirmation...if you pay in cash in BA...it's 20% more....but only on the base fare, not on the taxes. Meaning your ticket will be anything between 10 to 17% more expensive from today.

It may be still a good deal with the blue rate...but hey, it's still one more thing to hit the Argentinians. And let's not forget...blue is great, if you have access to USD...if you earn here in pesos...it's one more thing to hit you....and I'm not sure people really need to be hit every single few weeks with something new like this...

Made the rounds to US air carriers this AM. None have any real guidance on what to charge (20%) a nonresident paying in cash. All will sell a ticket to a nonresident paying in cash: pesos. All waiting for guidance from AFIP.

American Airlines: not charging the 20%.

Delta: charges the 20%, subject to refund if something changes?Asked who would refund and they did not know.

United: not charging the 20%.

All reported they will have answers later today or tomorrow. Check is in the mail.

The following article indicates foreigners will pay 20% on the value of the touristic Air/package? and should provide their home country Tax ID number, and claim the surcharge from the IRS later? :D

The VP of Travel Agencies Assoc. indicates that the 20% surcharge is an advanced "payment" against the 2014 income tax return.

I think you are getting this wrong.
The only ones that will be really affected are perma tourists and tourists trying to buy tix etc because now they can´t, they must pay in USD. For the rest, expats with residency here, and lcoals, you only pay 20% tax and you still are saving over 30% as that would be the gap between the official exch rate + 20% and the blue dollar.

Perhaps you missed this articlle from infobae....!!

It is beginning to sound like any type of purchase for travel physically made in Argentina is going to be charged the 20%. Does not matter what country of origin your credit card is. Know it sounds insane, but what can I say. But the way the Blue Dollar is going, hit 8.50 today, the 20% is slowly shrinking to an insignificant charge.
