Affordable Hotel in Rio??

Does anyone know a good but affordable place to stay a few days in Rio? Prices have shot up so much since even a few years ago. PM me please if you don't want the name of the hotel to become public and over-desired. I knew a couple of places that were good but prices have risen even there, while the dollar has fallen.

Hi, I stayed at the Mercure Arpoador recently. It is nothing special but it is not too pricey, the rooms are spacious with kitchens and it's between Copacabana and Ipanema beaches. Possibly the best option would be to stay in a tourist apartment in Leblon then you are near the beach and close to good restaurants.

You are right though Rio is so much more expensive than it used to be.

I stayed at the Sol Ipanema back in Feb of '04. It was a week and a half before Carnaval, so there were plenty of rooms for not to much.

We paid ~US$90/night for a ocean view midweek, so now it should only be about US$230/night.
