So I heard another "rumor" today probably based partly on truth as most rumors are. For those with DNI's wanting to open a bank account in Uruguay you might want to think twice. Supposedly Uruguay might form an agreement with Argentina to reveal who living in Argentina has an account in Uruguay and how much money they have deposited. I imagine that applies to residents as well as citizens. Then I heard another crazy thing while conversing with an Argentine friend. The other rumor going around is that AFIP is going to send inspectors to the Campos to force them to empty their silos and sell everything at the offical dollar rate when the Campos are preserving their product to sell at the blue dollar rate. Then my friend started carrying on and on about the "dictatorship" and violation of our rights. Is the AFIP going too far? It's getting ridiculous.

Well the silo empty has been a rumor for more than 4 years so probably is just another rumor, about the bank in Uruguay they cannot do much unless you really have a few millons there lol.

Well, that's true in part. If a person is being investigated (has a case already open in the justice for money laundering for example), Argentina can ask Uruguay if they have bank accounts there. It involves the famous principle of bank secrecy. It doesn't breach it, but it moves around to detect illegal funds if there is proof that this person is doing something wrong, not because they "just want to check". They cannot do that even if they want to. I don't believe this is wrong (it happens in a lot of countries, they are able to make pacts between them), but of course AFIP is not known for doing things for the right reason. I believe it's for political reasons (another tool to sink someone big).

Besides, we all know that if someone wants to move a large sum of money, they are going to have bank accounts in other more secure countries (Switzerland, Cayman Islands, etc.). There is an article in La Nacion about this: http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1552699-entro-en-vigencia-pacto-sobre-informacion-tributaria-entre-argentina-y-uruguay

What AFIP does demand is that producers provide rough numbers of cultivated surfaces and future crop estimates since the State now "owns" part of it as future taxes revenue. They're the new "partners".
Not a rumor, but something a close relative/producer mentioned yesterday.

There's indeed binational cooperation (likely mandatory with the execution of treaties about money laundering and such, like in Europe with Switzerland) but on the other hand Uruguay will protect its bank secrecy no matter what (Uruguay wants to remain like the South American Switzerland).

Wondering too about the producers having to provide the rough number of cultivated surfaces and future crop estimates. What would they declare I'm wondering? Crops can be checked a posteriori (satellital images) so why would that be a priori? This iz no goud

Uruguay has long ago ceased to be the "Switzerland of South America", and in practice has rolled ack virtually all of its bank secrecy rules. The Mujica government has been particularly eager to "punish" the greedy bloodsucking capitalists hoarding the money they stole from the toiling masses. To this end, an information sharing agreement with Argentina came into effect at the begining of the year by which Uruguay and Argentina share information on bank accounts, securities and real estate holdings held by Argentinianians in Uruguay. The smart money, both Uruguayan and Argentinian has long since moved their wealth much further offshore from Uruguay. Therefore the major world private banks here have al downgraded their presence here and only keep representative offices in Uruguay to meet with their clients and pass along banking instructions, but do not do any real banking here at all. Also remember that Pepe Mujica only holds Comandante Chaves in higher esteem then he does Cristina, so do not expect him or the Uruguayan government to seriously stand in the way of any AFIP fishing expeditions.

Not to worry. CFK and friends always have the country's best interest in mind. http://www.lanacion.com.ar/1553391-matan-de-cuatro-balazos-a-un-testigo-de-la-causa-por-la-tragedia-de-once
