Am I just unlucky?

We need stricter laws on moped ownership, and stricter background checks for people purchasing mopeds. People with a criminal background, and mental illness should not be able to legally obtain a moped. Police should also be able to go through 2 years of a person's social media history for any past aggression that could lead to potential future crimes to determine moped ownership.

Mopeds cause violent crimes not people.

It happens quite frequently, but I’ve only seen a couple of cases (one outside a bank...likely an inside helper). I hesitate to use this analogy, but f@*k it...

You see one roach, there are likely to be many more that you don’t see...keep the goodies out of sight.

You see a few, there’s a larger problem that will likely not go away easily because the neighbors may be complacent with their existence. Continue with your maintenance plan.

You see many...it’s time to move.

Whilst you've been in Buenos Aires you may have missed this:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6452881/london-moped-crimes-how-many-where-happened/

But don't worry: by the time you get back home, things should be quieter:

In fact London could soon be as free of motochorros as Buenos Aires is now.

If crime in Argentina wasn't so common and accepted, the police were at least semi competent and therefore reliable stats were recorded regularly, the figures for BA would blow London out of the water. There is no comparison to be honest. Every single person i have spoken to here in Argentina who has been here for 10+ years has been a victim of crime. In London i know maybe 2 people at most

Lol. In all seriousness, a reason why moped crime is on the rise in London is because once the thief has taken off his helmet, the police must by law stop chasing them, because it's apparently too dangerous for the thief in case he crashes. If you ask me, an absolutely ridiculous piece of legislation

Somebody must have been listening to you:

(Quote)Insp Jim Corbett said those who thought they would not be chased if they took off their helmets were in for a surprise: “A big myth that we have is that if people remove their helmets they think they are not going to be pursued.”
He said officers were told by one person they caught: “I took my helmet off as I thought you would stop chasing me.” That person, who was later jailed, rode on to the pavement. Officers deemed him a danger to the public and used “tactical contact” to knock him off his scooter.(end)
