hey, i am studying garment pattern making and i must make this dress. are there any good/decent shop to look for fabrics in buenos aires? i went to Once, and it's all polyester or rare stuff, too shiny, to many deers and snowflakes.

I would appreciate it,
Thanks!

Go to Lavalle and Puyerredon--it's the Fabric District. If you start there, walk down Lavalle (you'll see which direction to walk when you get there) and that store and general district is just FULL of fabrics of all different kinds for several blocks. You can find nice quality and cheapie stuff and everything in between, also all the notions stores for ribbon, thread, etc.

good luck!

If you want higher quality stuff and cottons, I think people go to Alsina starting from Microcentro.

Imagen Textil http://www.imagentextil.com/ (Alsina 1243)
Nati http://www.natitextil.com.ar/ (Santiago del Estero 177 y Alsina 1311)
Unitelas - Alsina 1262

Another one I've heard good things about is here. My teacher uses them for theater productions (although that could mean they just look good from a distance *.*):
Charm's - Azcuénaga 416

Raw wool (not merino, but usable for felting, also spun wool for knitting)
Pasteur 609 - Lanas de Patagonia

Hilos Tucuman (Lavalle 2568) is where I get ribbons and trim and stuff, but it's usually a wait unless you get there early, and I think there's a minimum AR$100 but I might be wrong about that. They are usually good, but don't have a huge selection of terciopelo (velvet ribbon) in my opinion.
