Hello again, fellow expats!
A couple of weeks ago, I posted hoping to gain some professional insights regarding how to enhance my career from beyond "just" being an ESL/EFL teacher (https://baexpats.org/threads/seeking-professional-insights-connections.48483/). I have to give credit where it is due to @LuckyLuke , who suggested offering speech therapy or some kind of services to disabled children in one of the responses. I have now been looking into getting certified in teaching students with dyslexia and have been researching various routes to upskilling and adding this to my professional repertoire.
I found a credible online course through the Dyslexia Training Institute based in California that looks like it has potential and read up on the requirements. In order to earn the (expensive) certificate, at the end, I would have to complete a practicum in which I would implement what I learn by working one-on-one with a person who has dyslexia, twice a week for around 4 - 5 months (any time between October 2025 - July 2026). I know it's a ways off, but the biggest catch is that the tutee would have to be a NATIVE English speaker
Before I throw my hat in the ring and go all in, I wanted to test the waters and ask if anyone on this forum who is a native English speaker who is dyslexic (or perhaps has a child who is at least 6 years old who you suspect may have dyslexia, even if there is not a formal diagnosis). I'm not asking for a formal commitment at this moment; rather, it's to get a feel for how plausible it would be for me to complete this program with the practicum, given the NES requirements.\
As always, all of your insights, suggestions, and responses are very much appreciated.
