Truth is an overwhelming majority of people and their families that gain wealth via lotteries end up far worse off then they were before they won the money. Something about getting to that level of the money game and not understanding wealth and how to handle it seems to tear their lives and families apart.

I'm familiar with the Viv Nicholson story. I saw a documentary about her a while back. I don't know what the ratio is of people whose lives are ruined against those who go on to have "rich" rewarding lives after winning the lottery. You never hear about the latter. You always hear about the guy who wins the big one and then blows it all on hookers & cocaine. Much more titillating. Who wants to read about a guy who wins millions and who spends it on travel and investments and helping others. You never read about them. Not very titillating.
