The first ignorant attitude to this is "I do nothing wrong, I've not got anything to worry about".
If all countries acted as USA does you should change your tune because some country somewhere you're breaking a law at some point, no doubt.
What about the UK teenager who's going to USA for posting a link (just a link) to a torrent file. Did that guy really think he was going to languish in a yank jail for that?
Likewise there are other laws to be worried about.

No dought though, the shady will be interested in this thread. Plenty of shady people run to places like Argentina trying to escape. But that's not the point. I'm still intrigued...

Following reading about the (chinese?) Megaupload guy in New Zealand who's been flown out to America to be arrested ...

and then reading about the UK hacker(cracker) who's going to loose his life for sharing information ( freegary.org.uk) ...
and then reading about the Brit teenager who's going to the USA to serve a massive sentance just for posting links to torrent files

I'm beginning to think to myself...

if Argentina hates USA so much then why has Argentina got a extradition treaty with the USA?

And same for the UK... does Argentina have a treaty with the UK on this?

What about the rest of Latin America? And other countries?

This isn't something I've thought a whole load about before in the past but recent news has prompted me to check this out.

Pretty easy way to avoid any problems with this.

I'll let Jim Carrey spell it out for you:

I doubt you're going to be extradited to iran for drawing pictures of the prophet but most countries will extradite you for doing illegal shit. Extradition treaties make sense, what if a serial killer from Argentina escaped to the states, he should be sent back to Argentina for trail, not just get a free pass because he hadn't happened to have done anything in the country he landed in.

Megaupload dude isn't chinese, he's german and a convicted fraudster. I think he'll actually be able to beat these charges though

I noticed here that in argentina , this goverment refused to extradate an assasin whose extradition was requested by Chile. The goverment refused on the grounds that it was a "political "assasination he engaged in .
Same for a venezuelan that blew up an airline in cuba i think . The States considers him a "freedom fighter" and therefore refused to extradite him

I used to work extradition cases long time ago and I can tell you something: it is very complex to get extradited. The action that is illegal has to be illegal in both countries. Otherwise, forget about extradition. Regards

Do you have a link for this?

Ah okay, so he didn't just happen to post a link, he set up a file sharing site.

"the TVShack.net website earned "over $230,000 in advertising revenue" before US authorities obtained a warrant and seized the domain name in June 2010."

That's quite different from just linking to one torrent file. Not that I think he should be extradited (I don't), but it's not really an offense somebody could do accidentally.
