Argentina looks to open new route to the sea for foreign trade

Thanks for posting this, Carride.

This is an issue of major importance to Argentina, and a big part of the larger issue of sovereignty over the Rio de la Plata. Mempo Giardinelli has written eloquently and passionately on this subject several times this year, but this is the first article on the subject in English which I have seen.

The current situation for Argentina is quite dire, but it's complex and hard to explain to the layman.

A major part of keeping an estuary like the Rio de la Plata navigable is a regular program of dredging, and Argentina's last dredging ship was quietly transferred to Uruguayan flag and taken over by an Uruguayan crew earlier this year.
