Argentina Missing Submarine

On August 2000 Russian Sub Kursk suffered an explosion at a site in deep waters all efforts were made to reach the Sub to no avail , then UK and Norway offered a special piece of equipment that could save the crew, all 118 sailors died. The Russian authorities refused the help.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, though immediately informed of the tragedy, was told by the navy that they had the situation under control and rescue was imminent. He waited five days before he ended his holiday at a presidential resort in Sochi on the Black Sea. Only four months into his tenure as President, the public and media were extremely critical of Putin's decision to remain at a seaside resort, and his highly favourable ratings dropped dramatically.[sup][18][/sup] The President's response appeared callous and the government's actions looked incompetent.[sup][19][/sup] A year later he said, "I probably should have returned to Moscow, but nothing would have changed. I had the same level of communication both in Sochi and in Moscow, but from a PR point of view I could have demonstrated some special eagerness to return."[sup][20][/sup]

Russian or Soviet submarines either suffered extensive crew casualties or were entirely lost to enemy action or to "storm or perils of the sea." See link.

There is a moving British film, 1950, about a submarine that sinks and that cannot be rescued. Title is Morning Departure.

Based on the true story of the loss of the H. M. S. Truculant?

The full movie is not available directly on YouTube.but here's a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yo1f8FfHOrA

It can probably be downloaded from Torrent. It's an excellent film. The film is much better than the clip suggests.

A former US Navy sonar operator on YouTube called JiveTurkey has been doing an interesting analysis stream of the sonograms of the explosion released.
Two major events, about a minute apart. First event seemed like some form of major stress then release, like a battery explosion.
Second event was in his opinion an emergency blow of ballast, meaning the crew knew they were going down.
Faint third event was likely the sub hitting the bottom.
So some of the crew likely survived the initial event, but if they did, it was not for long.

La Nacion reported yesterday that bribes were paid by the two companies that repaired the ARA San Juan.
Interesting that neither Nilda Garre nor Cristina have come forward regarding the incident.
Nilda Garre was Secretary of Defense during CFK reign. This could get interesting. Corruption kills. The plot thickens.

My first reaction was that the sub was old, in poor condition and hadn't been replaced due to the Kirchners' hatred of the military. Then it occurred to me that Macri has had two years to increase military spending and bring things up to date. After that an Argentine friend made the observation that the submarine was no different from the trains or anything else in the country. What would make conditions any different, he argued. Mediocre and careless maintenance? Bribes? Maybe....
