Argentina now ridiculously cheap for tourists

Jesus H, that's outrageous! Seriously, 57 USD for a T-bone, and 66 USD for a Porterhouse?
Comparable quality meat is still available from local butcher for USD12-15 a pound. If one can cook.

somethings are more expensive in the states some things are less expensive.

What's the main problem besides taxes? Crime?
Yep. Seemingly uncontrollable and increasing crime; fiscal incompetence/insolvency, and lousy weather. The urban trifecta!

This woman sums it up. And she works in accounting. https://patch.com/illinois/chicago/why-im-leaving-chicago-illinois

More here. The city/county/state unfunded pensions basically require all taxes to double to meet their future obligations. I may exaggerate, but not much. I’m apolitical, but the Democratic Party has ruled Illinois for at least 50 years. This article is three years old. Imagine the shortfalls caused by covid and the recent riots. And public-employee layoffs simply do not happen. Higher taxes? Oh, those happen. https://wirepoints.org/understandin...amatic-pension-shortfall-wirepoints-original/

Crime info here. The local media doesn’t report much of it. These guys do. The truth can make for awkward conversation, so it’s best avoided. But there it is. https://cwbchicago.com/ and https://heyjackass.com/

Oh, and then there’s this from the 2010 Census. Can’t imagine this has improved. It’s far worse in Chicago.

The birthrate among single mothers also varied along educational, socioeconomic and racial barriers. Sixty-eight percent of black women who had given birth in the past year were unmarried, compared to 11 percent of Asian women, 43 percent of hispanics and 26 percent of non-Hispanic whites. Fifty-seven percent of recent mothers without a high school diploma were unmarried compared to nine percent of recent mothers with a bachelors degree or higher. Sixty-nine percent of recent mothers who came from households with incomes with $10,000, in contrast to nine percent of recent mothers with households earning $200,000 or more.

Anyway, I took my business, family and assets and moved to Florida. And now BA and Europe. At least it’s someone else’s hell.

Steakhouse-quality meat would be about USD18-25/lb in major USA cities—NYC, LA, Chicago. Wine? Hahaha!

How about comparing seafood? Here I have found most seafood to be poor and expensive with the selection severely lacking.

Doesn't BA have worse crime and single women birth rates, if that's something of concern?

The weather and cost of living is much better here.

Of course, you can find stats to confirm just about any opinion, but in short, no. Crime in major USA cities is very bad, and getting worse. As is single parenthood, as is dependence on the state for employment or other income, as is homelessness, and endless racism from all parties. And many USA residents have no access to healthcare, except at the hospital emergency room, which is why healthcare is horrifically expensive in the USA.

But, yes, electrical goods, clothing, and anything else manufactured in China or Bangladesh or Vietnam is cheaper in the USA. I can afford to live anywhere, I moved my family and business to CABA for the summer, then some time in Europe and maybe Singapore. Then back to BA. I visit USA when needed, or to see family. It’s not the USA you remember.

Or clothes, hygiene products, shoes, electrical goods...
Yes. Anything made in China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, etc., will be cheaper in the USA. So, visit Miami a few times a year and stock up. You can also get very cheap prices on these products in Mexico too, which had become sort of California South. Or California is Mexico North, more accurately. Incredible crime in Mexico, though, so be careful.
