Argentina re-opening international flights in August!

In the coming days sounds there may be news of weekly flights to Europe starting as early as July. Bookings will only be open to EU citizens / legal residents going there and AR citizens / legal residents coming back. Idea is to facilitate essential movement and repatriations and some seats will be available on a commercial basis. Any Argentine resident/ citizen who goes out waives the right to any form or government support or repatriation if their plans all go to hell.

This is apparently in line with the law prohibiting sales until SEP since earlier rights would depend on government approval on a case by case basis after submitting special protocols etc. Seems the government may be granting one such permission.

Am tempted to abandon ship and hibernate in Greece for the summer. Especially with some statements from government officials today acknowledging the possibility quarantine could last until Spring here... But then again we don't know what Europe or Argentina will look like in a couple of months time making it a bit of a gamble since we know from experience that flights can also stop on a dime.

I'm skeptical of the travel industry's claims that they know how to sanitize airplanes, airports, hotels, restaurants, taxis.

You should be until they figure out how to vacuum-pack a human being so no droplets can escape its body.

Voilà, schedule is up. KLM will also have AMS flights. Think you actually need to contact AFKL to book or wait until later in the week as you can’t do it online yet.

Antipodean - why do you think the Argentine government chose France/Paris as the first exterior destination? Why KLM?

Where do you think the US fits into this priority list?

Thanks.

The Argentine government did not choose. The airline simply submitted a proposal with a protocol that was approved.
Other airlines are not interested because they know these flights will be pretty empty and run at a loss. With one flight a week you cannot be hoping for much...
AFKL operate a lot of cargo and have continued to operate cargo flights throughout the past months using passenger jets - hence it is just a way to add a bit more revenue on to some of these flights. Additionally some European governments may be booking blocs of seats to subsidize the flights somewhat since they are for their own nationals, not Argentines nor any other nationality.

It is there - click on Sunday 05JUL. Next one after is 14JUL then weekly usually on Tuesdays. Note that from then there will be one flight per week by AF.

Cheers, I thought you were looking at 1 July :). Thanks!
P.S> 14 July seems to have been canceled.
