Argentine Art Appreciation

Yes, I would very much be interested in learning about Argentine art and even buy some.

I'll see you at the expat lunch next Tuesday!

Hi there,

Another posibility is go and visit artists in there "talleres". For a small group of people that are eventually interested to buy something it can be arranged.

Let me know.

I am jealous that an art group is forming and I can't be there to join! Buena suerte a todos! My book was recently published about a painter born in Uruguay, who became an important American artist ("F. Luis Mora: America's First Hispanic Master 1874-1940"). I'd love to read about your activities on this blog ! Yes, MALBA has a great cafe, and their murals are even better.

This past weekend an art dealer I know who closed his gallery in 2008 brought over two hundred paintings (by listed Argentine artists) to a deposito near my apartment in Barrio Norte. They had been in storage in Flores but it was too difficult (and daunting) for most expats to go there to see them. I have the key and can show the artworks to those who are interested (by appointment, please). Prices range form $200 to $2000 US and are up to 75% less than current retail for works by the same artists in BA galleries. Some of the artists are considered "grande maestros" of Argentine art (Luis Cordiviola, Roberto Rossi, Manuel Claro Bettinelli, Carlos Monzani, Santiago Corgono, Davis Heneyman, Juan Manuel Sanchez, etc.)

Many of the paintings are by the same artists that I have posted on my blog (www.argentineart.blogspot.com), but there are others as well. If you click on "view my complete profile" on the blog you will find links to additional art and artists. I shopped extensively for the art that I bought and these are the best art values I have ever seen. I will be at the lunch tomorrow. If I don't see you there, please send me a PM.

Thank you Steve for the great idea! I'm an art lover and would like so very much to share some time with this group. I've been studying last year at AAMNBA and definitly would like to join in on your expertise. Please let me know about time and date.

Claudine:)

What a great idea! I'd love to join this group. Please let me know about date, time and place so we can join and have some fun.

Thanks Steve,

Claudine:)

Yes, I am interested in art and art events in the city. Please post them when you can. Thanks, Venetia

It's worth having a look at the Helft Collection (http://www.initiartmagazine.com/interview.php?IVarchive=95), but I don't think it's open to the public any more, but possibly to specialists. It's in San Telmo.
