Hi All

Its my dads 80th later this year and would like to take him something back from Argentina, perhaps something engraved. Any suggestions at all of something local I can take back?
I can only think of knives ie pen knives he always carries one, leather goods . Maybe an engraved mate cup, although he hates the stuff lol.
Maybe something perhaps gaucho related, or anything traditionally Argentine.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Not knowing your dad, there are many choices:
one of the gifts could be the typical Argentine belt which all love
A beautiful leather wallet from a good shop
Some bowl or tray or of the like made of alpaca(low grade silver, not the animal) hand hammered
or go out to the mataderos fair and they have a great selection of gaucho-esque goods
hope this helps!

How about some super fine hottie with 2 meter legs and an ultra tight tee shirt. He'll be in heaven for 5 minutes.

You could get an engraved belt buckle in a nice store such as Arandú (http://www.arandu.com.ar/), This is a high-end talabarteria, not the crappy gaucho stuff that you find at Tigre or La Boca.
There is one buckle made on order where you can have you dad's initial engraved. Wait time is about 10 days and cost I think around 800 ARS. It is a very cowboy thing, heavy and sturdy.
You can see the available styles for engraving on their website under Plateria Criolla > Hebillas > Page 3
Or you could pick one a lighter a shinier buckle with just one letter already available in store. They also carry a large selection of belts up to 130 cm, or you can have a 150 cm custom made (but just 4 plain colors to choose from).

A Happy 80th fileteado (you decide the wording). We had one made with our California street address on it.

Thats a great idea. Thanks.
Any ideas where I can order one in advance? I`m not local to BA so handy if I can get it delivered.

We got ours from http://www.martinianoarce.com/, but immediately after the 2002 crash when everything was pretty cheap. He does some big time commercial work, and you'd probably have to discuss it with him in person. He did the following work for himself and his wife, but you'd probably think twice before doing anything similar in your case: https://www.pinteres...65343466026592/
