Though personally I couldn't care less about the result, no country deserves to win any athletic event, especially one so colored by cheap nationalism. If the Argentine soccer team outplays the Germans, they may deserve to win but, just as likely, it'll be a tie decided by post-game free throws.

Constructive suggestion in this morning's NY Times: "Soccer persists as a monotonous and tedious sport...To make soccer more engaging, I would dispose of goalies to give it the type of electrifying high scoring that allows basketball to be such an exhilarating sport."

It's worth adding that, in basketball, goal-tending is a violation of the rules.

Well, I really wanted Argentina to win ... Among various reasons, it would have been a great middle finger to the Brazilians who have gone out of their way to support any team playing against Argentina.

But, more importantly, if Messi had won a World Cup, we would never have to hear the name of that coke-head hand-baller ever again.

So so frustrating.. really wanted Argentina to win.. Unfortunately you can't miss the chances Argentina had and expect to win. Palacio is not in my good books, Aguero didn't look fit. Di Maria going down was huge and the team played too defensive.
