Beach Holiday Recommendations?

I like Ipanema, lots to do in the area too.
For something a little different you can check out Isla Grande, near Rio. Cold water but very relaxing with a tropical island vibe.

I really enjoyed Las Grutas. Warm swimming water, good food but pretty funky. When tide is out, you can walk for miles, when tide is in it is very crowded.

I just looked again. It looks ok, but I am not really into getting busses or staying somewhere that can't change foreign currency. I was thinking a bit more upmarket.

If you have a car there are tons of beaches to explore, some are very deserted.

If one goes without car to punta del diablo or other is it OK to hang around by foot or do you really need a car? Any nice hotels around that coast or primarily houses for rent?
