Bodies Of American Climbers Found In Argentina

People usually die at Aconcagua because they don t take it seriously.

Mount K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth, after Mount Everest. Pakistan has very few things to take pride in, you cant that that away from it too! :(

That is very true. It is not a technical climb but altitude has a way of really screwing with you. These climbers were found off of their ropes at the bottom of a cliff. One can only wonder what happened between the time they made the distress call and them both going over.

If you are interested in a great documentary on climbing in South America I highly recommend 180 South, retracing Yvon Choulnard and Doug Tompkin's epic 1968 Patagonia climbs. This is not a grainy black & white film with voice over. It is a current documentary that includes Doug's efforts at wilderness protection, has a very interesting love story that evolves, and the perspective of Yvon and Doug on climbing now that they are "older."

Definitely worth the $2.99 on Amazon instant video.

With Volcán Lanin is even worst and every year somebody dies. I was witness of how a chilean man went to the top of volcán Lanin in the same day without any equipment (mocasines, blue jeans, a pullover, no food, no sleeping bag, only with a picketa) Possible is possible but any issue you are dead.

I think maybe you meant the second highest mountain range. that would be a true statement.
That would be the Karakoram, the 'K' from 'K2' :)

The confusion comes from the famous '7 summits' list, which are the highest peaks on each of the 7 continents, one of the holy grails of climbing. In that list, Aconcagua is the 2nd highest after Everest. But as mentioned, though Aconcagua is the highest peak outside of Asia, it is a bit lower than 7000m and all hundreds of 7000 meter peaks and all 14 8000+ meter peaks are in Asia.

And yes, Aconcagua is underestimated and quite a few people died there, even though the two normal routes are technically easy (Ruta Normal y Falso de Polaccos).

Add one more to the list.
