Bus from Lima to Buenos Aires

If you are a Yank, remember that you need to get a passport to go into Bolivia. You can get it at the border (unlike Paraguay and Brazil) but you need certain documents (get info from US Bolivia Embassy site) and fork over $130 US.

For comfort, and to avoid the above, you may want to just go thru Chile and skip Bolivia, though Bolivia can be fascinating in its own right.
 
I agree with the responses urging you to reconsider the bus trip. I have spent a lot of time in Peru, and the bus drivers are INSANE. The roads are not good (the Pan-American highway is two lane, curvy, often foggy, with tons of blind corners with bus drivers passing cars). I would strongly recommend you pony up the extra cash and fly!
