Buying a RED camera here

Thanks all for your responses. Are there not companies like B+H Photo in New York that sell $25,000USD+ cameras for professionals? Anyone with any information from this world (you know a Director of Photography there, or are one for example) would be hugely appreciated!

There may be some specialised shops, I do not know, but do not expect Buenos Aires to be like New York. Argentina has a lot of import restrictions and taxes, unlike any Western country. Any electronics may be harder to find or be much more expensive.

It would be cheaper to travel to NY and buy the camera & B+H than buy it in Argentina.

I know nothing about such cameras but asked someone in the business.

She said you have to buy it in the States and bring it yourself - no other way, as import duties are sky-high. That's how she got her camera, bought in California. Also suggested contacting people who own one and offer to buy it - business here is at a standstill, and they may want to sell their cameras. She also pointed out that such equipment becomes easily outdated, and people regularly trade up. Best of luck....!

I was a B&H regular when I lived in NYC. I still have several digital cameras I bought there before leaving NYC. They’re still working but somewhat obsolete. A while back I discovered that there’s a P&H foto camera store here in BA. Libertad 484, just steps from the
obelisco. Never bought anything there but you might want to stop by see what they have. Good luck.

B&H in AR. Yeah right.

Have you not seen these guys carrying flat screen tvs through the airports? You gotta bring that stuff with you.

This is especially true if you bought some things in NYC that you could sell here at a profit. A former student of mine does this with children's clothing every time her company sends her on a business trip to USA.

If you're a camera guy and going to a premium yanqui camera store, I think a little research might show you some items in demand here. Learn to think Argentino!

Just buy a couple iphones and bring them back with you, always a popular item and easy to bring in. The never actually check your person so just put em in your jacket pocket...

Also interested in someone's experience with that! So far I heard there is a street near san telmo that is famous for good priced electronics, otherwise I have seen Androids in Jumbo and in cell phone stores.

One other question-- anywhere recommended to get a tourist style non-contract sim for local number and/or data?
interested to know what that camera shop in San Telmo is called, I’m keen to get a reasonable camera to take pictures in Iguazu in the absence of my phone. Anybody have any recommendations for somewhere to get a reasonable camera for a reasonable price? Wouldn’t mind paying up to $250 max
