Can you share your experiences with the public health system?

Are any of you out there willing to share your experiences with the public health system....care quality? cost? If I had had an experience I could share it...but I haven't. But I am about to rely on the system and just go with it.

I signed up in 2015 with Cobertura Porteña de Salud, a free public plan in the city. My main doctor has an office in the neighborhood, so I make an appointment at 147. He writes an order for a blood test, for example, that I have done at the local public hospital eight blocks from where I live. I am satisfied after ten years on this free plan. I present my DNI at the Hospital Ramos Mejia when I need an appointment.

A year and a half ago when I was still a temporary resident and now, of course, only permanent residents or citizens get free healthcare, I went to the emergency room in Belgrano. I had incredible lower abdomen pain and could barely move. The ambulance took forever...45 minutes but once at the hospital it was very fast and efficient. I had a surgeon at my side asking questions and then another surgeon to confirm they didn't need to operate immediately...they needed tests on me instead. They did a bunch of tests and then concluded I likely had kidney stones. I was told to not wait to get a urologist from the public system because it would take too long and go to a private urologist, which I did. I went to the Italian hospital and paid $20 USD in cash to talk to a doctor, he told me to have an MRI...that cost $100...then back to the doctor for another $20...the doctor said I had two stones that were small enough to take a drug that he gave me a prescription for to dilate the area...drink water...and it's done. I did these things and it was done.
So, mine was a combination of the public and private systems but the public system worked fine...it's old, crowded...but wasn't crowded when I was there that time.

I needed further info on skin problems so I went to the University hospital on Cordoba. I had to wait 2 hours in the end...and it was worth it. 4 doctors consulted with me. Cost-zero. I would go back anytime. So far I have payed 70,000.......50,000.....75000....for private consultations. And yes I am learning.....It's for MOHS surgery and I payed $2500 in the Philippines at the most expensive place there...3 years ago. The Uni Hospital does not do it.

I had Moh's surgery in 2016 by Dr. Abel Gonzalez at the Unidad Oncologica Cutanea in the Instituto Fleming in Colegiales. This is the guy for Moh's Surgery in Argentina and Dr Abel Gonzalez has been doing it since 1990. Instituto Fleming specializes in Oncology and I was very impressed with the facilities, treatment and results.

I assume that you refer to Hospital de Clinicas at Facultad de Medicina.
