Might go to Rio and would like to know if it's easy to redeem bitcoin of reais there. Has anyone tried it and do you run into problems, red tape, taxes, fees or any such thing? Just would like to know how easy or streamlined the process there is.
Thanks!

Would appreciate any advice on this, even by dm. Must make plans for Brazil and don't want any complications or surprises.

There are 2 websites you can check. First is localbitcoins (dot com), look for someone with a good reputation score.

Next is the bitcointalk forum, portuguese section: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=134.0

Meet at a public place like Starbucks and use the same common sense you would in Argentina.

Thanks. The truth is I really don't know what precautions to take even in Argentina, so a written online guide somewhere would be useful.

My main concern is, let's say, I need R1000 or R3000 tomorrow, how hard is it to actually get it? There or the equivalent in Buenos Aires? I'm sorry if these are newbie questions but I'd just like to know how easy/convenient it is or not and what I might be getting myself into.

It's still not that easy, unless you have a contact ahead of time, or there happens to be a bitcoin ATM (which I've never seen, but they exist). It's probably easier to use an ATM or bring cash, if that is an option. If you'll be there a while and will have an ongoing need, then it may be worth finding a bitcoin hookup.

As for security, just imagine you're selling something worth the amount of money you'll be getting. The risk is that they give you the cash, and then rob you when you leave (after you've transferred the bitcoin). Or that the cash is counterfeit.
