I'm trying to get down to Punta Piramides, and am shocked at ticket prices through Aerolineas Argentinas (> $400 to Trelew as a non-Argentine). Does anyone have any suggestions for ways to fly down to Patagonia for cheaper? Or alternative airlines/cities? I've heard of someone who flew from BA to Puerto Madryn in a smaller airplane, but cannot find much info online.

It seems like, unlike airlines in other countries, the flights from BA to Patagonia through Aerolineas are all predetermined and expensive. Also, non-residents pay more. Why? Is this enforced?

Thanks in advance

Semantics but non-residents don't pay more. Residents pay less than the actual price as their tix are partially subsidized. Yes, you typically have to show a DNI when you get your ticket. If you don't have it, you have to pay the non-resident rate. (although I have heard stories of people who didn't and got away with paying resident prices even though they were tourists).

Tix are expensive, don't have any info on cheaper alternatives except looking into bus tix.
