I've also made the switch. Chicken and pork are so much cheaper and higher in protein that I ask myself, what's the point in buying beef anymore?

My suegro in San Luis has many tales of growing up in poverty eating a roasted chicken once per month with a daily diet consisting of mostly bread, mate cocido, orchard scraps, and an occasional chunk of salami. Forget beef.

Even when I was living in Los Angeles in a studio apartment making median wages ($45,000/yr) I ate beef once a week. I'm okay with an asado being a special moment to enjoy a pricey food. Plenty of alternate proteins out there.

I don't find pork or chicken to be appreciably cheaper. No food is cheap anymore.

Comparing to other prices I find beef still quite cheap here.
Very true a kilo of cheese is more expensive than a kilo de Lomo? Beef has an intensive care and investment for years, before reaching the market.
