China suspends US$6.5 billion currency swap agreement with Argentina

Shows how fanatical this president is that he is willing to make the poor and middle class suffer tremendously for a few billion dollars in savings but for good relations with China nothing This lack of diplomacy and common sense is the antithesis of liberty that he professes non stiop from the roooftops . china is one of our most important trading partners and like all trading partners must be treated with respect irrespective of political and religious reasons

I do agree.

The crucial thing to understand is that Milei is a puppet, a stalking horse.

Think back to December 2015. Macri's first act as president was to pay the buitres, the vulture funds, every penny they were asking for. He didn't try to negotiate, he even paid their legal fees for the ridiculously illegal attempt to seize the Argentine navy's training ship. That was his very first act as president, which shows where his loyalties were, or at least who he served.

Now, this year, as soon as he knew he was president-elect, before he even assumed power, Milei went scurrying north to the USA, to kowtow at the feet of his masters. Which shows who he serves.

100 years ago, Hipólito Yrigoyen said, "I do not fear those outside who wish to buy us, as much as those inside who wish to sell us". And nothing has changed in that regard. The whole world is a different place than it was in 1923, but that one thing remains exactly the same.

Milei's job is to prevent Argentina from joining BRICS, to pry Argentina away from China, to deliver up all the major state-held enterprises for "privatization" for pennies on the dollar, and to sabotage Argentina in a general sense. Again.

Again.

Didn't Argentina have one of the world's largest economies that fell by the wayside in the 100 years following this quote?

Not really. It was 12th in 1950, highest ever, 15th still in 1980 and then slided out. To contribute decline to this quote is to ignore the world and reality.

The clumsiness and ignorance of the new government in foreign affairs is worrying: they lose a swap agreement with China in exchange for 300 Christmas boxes for poor citizens paid for by Taiwan...

By angering XI Jinping they are shooting themselves in the foot.

Let's consider for a moment that Milei is not colluding with Russia like the dossier says...oops, wrong President, wrong countries, but same...

Anyway, let's consider for a moment that Milei loves his country and want it to succeed. Maybe he's actually negotiating with the US and China. THAT is how he will get the best deals for Argentina from both countries.

When he said there was no money, he meant that he would make sure there is no money. And if there's no money, how is there money to buy fighter jets?

Milei = FRACASO.

Measuring "largest economy" can be done in many ways. GDP, obviously, doesnt tell you what the average person earns, it just divides the total income by gross population, so, if the top 1% earned 60%, the GDP is very different than if the income is more evenly distributed among the entire population. At the time the entire Argentine economy was number 12, most people were just making enough to buy the newly available Bolita refridgerators, no ordinary people made enough to buy a car. The standard of living was so different from current western expectations now. Argentina may have been "rich", but the average person was far from rich.
Today, the wealthy in Argentina are doing just fine, but the economy is a mess.
