Hi BAXers,

We'll be travelling from Arg to Europe soon for the first time in eons. I thought I might pick your collective world traveller brains for a few tips:

-- Do any of you fantastic human beings know if it would be worthwhile bringing an Argie phone? (would be Claro and/or Personal)?

-- Any tips for quiet places in southern Spain (hope this one doesnt break the BA theme of this site).

Thanks in advance, you're all rock stars, each and every one!

Ed, it's not quiet, but Seville is one of my favorite cities in the world... if you like flamenco or want to check it out, go to Casa de la Memoria... also I love the Royal Palace (aka Alcazar), the cathedral, the tower which you climb by ramp, the river, the tapas... really amazing place.

Your best best is to buy a chip there, just make sure your phone is unlocked and compatible with local carriers. Sorry, I don't know the tech part (which phones or frequencies.)

Quiet places... The Spanish aren't quiet, especially in the summer. ;)

There are many small towns throughout southern Spain. Just head an hour or two out from the main cities. Maybe take a few day trips. You'll need a car and watch out for the winding mountain roads.

Small enchanting towns in the south are abundant. But the southwest is not the same as the south coast or the southeast. Try Granada in the southwest or Murcia in the southeast.

My favorite city is Granada, it's small and everything is within walking distance of everything. And if you want REALLY quiet you can spend a couple nights in the mountains, the Alpujarras. Me and a bunch of girls rented a house for a couple nights in the town 'Bubion,' It's really quiet, quaint, and gorgeous. You can hike around, picnic, disconnect...

The Costa del Sol is not to be missed either...Nerja, Malaga, Marbella...

Renting a car would be helpful to see small towns, like drive from Granada or Sevilla down to the coast, stop in Ronda and other white hill towns...

Ok now I want to be in Spain...

edit- And Cordoba!! Cordoba's gorgeous, that mosque....

I'm living in Jerez de la Frontera , a small town of 250k people in Andalusia - home of dancing horses and sherry bodegas with good beach and countryside access. Our regular visitors to this province love Puero de Santa Maria for the sherry vibe and renowned beaches, Cadiz for culture, city and beach life, Cordoba for inland culture and charm, Seville for a stylish Milan type vibe. There's more than 20 white-top villages to explore - try looking up Vejer de la Frontera or Medina Sidonia to get an idea. Granada, Murcia, Valencia, Almeria are also so worth visiting..If you pm me with more details on what you're looking for I'll offer my advice gladly.

I recommend Cadiz. It's got great seafood and amazing beaches. What more do you need?
