I agree with everything said above so far re. shopping for BA ladies' clothes except for the stress put upon bringing only boring and cheap T's and pants from home with you. You'll be in a style-conscious city so allow yourself to bring and wear your more fashion-forward or stylish and better quality apparel. Just don't bring "Miu-Miu" and "Prada" because thieves recognize international luxury brands.
I know what it’s like to shop in BA as first a short US12/14 and now a US4! Being large doesn't work. Skinny does but this can't compensate for the trashy construction and fabrics sold with the odd exception ("Jazmin Chebar" for some things and "Juana de Arco" for unique in great quality cotton). So, I concentrated on and did well buying cheap clothes for 2 different dance styles on my recent trip. I did not use tango-clothing stores.
I badly needed new belts after losing weight so planned on buying these cheaply in BA. It was odd to find that most sold in BA are all the same length-90 cm although portenas tend to be much smaller than that! Only "Prune" stocks 75, 80 and 85 cm. in most models but you have to ask for these, maybe twice, and wait 15 minutes for them to bring you 5 or 6 different ones from each branch’s stockroom.
Forget buying bras unless you're almost flat-chested. Underpants in sexy styles or shorts are of very good quality in fabric and design that falls between that of US ones made in Asia and expensive French brands. If you buy the slightly more expensive ones in BA, ie. These are still much cheaper than you'd pay in the US for what's most proximate but not as good as those in BA. The same applies to some nightwear sold in upscale lingerie shops but selection is miniscule.
Considering how hard it is to shop online abroad from BA and the fact that we won’t on a retirement income have money to fly to Miami for goods but rarely, my husband and I are in the midst of deciding to live only part of each year in BA so that we can also live somewhere with good shopping the rest of the time.
Until then, I’ll be buying only fabulous and unique costume jewelry and top-quality leather goods in BA.
