Coffee for stovetop espresso

IMHO....It depends on which coffee you get at Starbuck. The french roast works good in the stove top expresso maker. There is a coffee shop that sells beans and accessories (and doesn't make coffee) on Santa Fe at Plaza Italiano that has a wide variety of coffee. I bought the most expensive one they had, a french roast, real dark and it was good.

I believe possibly that place is the one called "Mandarines" at Santa Fe 4128 ((+54 11) 4777-1753), http://www.alosmandarines.com.ar/.
They have a decent varied selection of whole beans such as "Italia Blend", "Colombia", "Espresso", "Extra" (a strong dark roast), "Suprema", "Gran Mandarin", and more.
The prices range generally from about 26 pesos per 1/4kg to about 55 pesos per 1/4kg.

They also carry other items such as chocolates, preserves and teas for example.

I buy our house's coffee in Chacarita - http://www.cafe-elcontinente.com.ar/. Take the 39 to it's terminal, it is just across the street!

This is a shop that roasts and sells beans and grounds to different cafes and restaurants throughout the city. I found it since I lived on the other side of the street for two years. I usually buy the columbian roast, and have them grind it for me there for our drip machine. They can also grind it for espresso machines, or just sell you the beans for you to grind it yourself. Has an amazing smell, and is actually good tasting! Not ridiculously expensive for the quality, about 25-30 pesos the 1/4 kilo.

Of course I am not a coffee snob (or a snob of any kind for that matter) but maybe you will find it useful!

I've never tried elcontinente but we also buy our colombian coffee from a cafe in Chacarita...also on Jorge Newberry (3663). It's called Full City Coffee...and a bag of delicious coffee is 40-something pesos. The 39 also drops you off a couple of blocks away!
