Finally got tired of paying the earth for poor quality vegetables, and will be putting in tomatoes, onions, broccoli, raspberries and leeks next spring, along with an assortment of herbs. Also planting a grapefruit tree. In this climate, everything grows easily... my lone lemon tree is supplying half of the neighbors right now.
Most vegetables can also be grown in pots - some locals have vegetable gardens on their rooftops, or balconies.
