On another thread someone mentioned a custom boot maker. Are custom shoes common in Baires? Where should I look and what price should I expect to pay?

I had them made some years ago -- place in Once. At the moment I can't recall the name. Shop has been around a long time. Shoes are still going strong. I have to warn you that the construction is very old fashioned, i.e. they are extremely heavy so if you are not used to that beware.

The shop is CORREA , Mario Braves 750
4861-7344
This info is a bit old now. I assume they are still in business. The shop is fairly old. As I said, they make shoes the old fashioned way. If one of their shoes had been thrown at George Bush (remember?) it would probably have finished him off.

If I am not mistaken they have hand made shoes at Guido in Quitana. Not sure if they have costum made. Prices are very reasonable.

Lopez Taibo has hand made shoes. Price is about 1700 pesos. Not sure if they are custom made.

I believe Lopez Taibo has custom shoes (not 100% sure though) but the price would be incredible. They are very high end with an expensive overhead. I don't think Guido does custom shoes but their quality is very good. Prices are less than Lopez Taibo and fashions tend to be more informal. There are other shops that are less fashionable that sell quality shoes for less. I would check out CORREA. The shop is very ordinary, as is the neighborhood but they have a lot of experience making very traditional shoes. If you go to the US or UK you can buy Church's English shoes which I think are at least partly hand made and top quality and may be price competitive, especially when on sale. You won't find any sales on quality shoes in BA.

I checked the price of Lopez Taibo shoes in March, for both the hand made and regular versions of the same model of shoe...the handmade version sold for 1,700 pesos and the regular version for 750 pesos.

Thanks!

I did hit a big sale at the Prune outlet last year and got some great buys.

Has anyone had a more recent experience with purchasing custom men's leather shoes in Buenos Aires? How long did it take, and how much should I expect to pay?

Thank you

Correa is the real thing. They have been making shoes since 1955 or so.
I have a pair of their shoes that were already made, a pair of carpincho boots, but in January, my wife had a pair of loafers made. Hers were simple, although totally custom, made to order. They cost under 1000 pesos, and took about a week. Mens shoes will be more, depending on size and style and leather.
A week, two at the outside.
