Coming soon: the pitfalls of dating an expat in Argentina

FINALLY! (Por fin!!)

A thread/blog about Dating in Argentina!

Gracias Rosiebeh!

I wish i'd read that before my last dating experience. Better late than never I guess :D

I think that "pito" refers to a whistle. Regarding the mentioned phrase, (It means doing a thankless or meaningless job) I think that the closest trasnlation to American English is "going whistling Dixie".

I can relate to some things, others are way too general, for me at least. Who you been dating girl? :D
The "pito" phrase is used when a person has nothing to do in whatever circumstance they were talking about. Is basically none of his business and is simply out of place.

Loved it and everything I have found true about dating an Argentine!

Being an Argentine, I agree with the smooth talking thing. So, ladies watch out! You will have to develop the chamuyo argentino radar if you don't wanna get hurt. Too bad I'm not a smooth talker by argentine standards.

Oh, and I've never heard that pito thing.

Jaja, I like part 2 more. I know an Argie teacher, who is retired, and decided to become therapist. It did not take her long to have 20 young Argies who have dating problems. I do not know what it takes to become a therapist , I guess all you need is a couch and an extra room in your apartment .And my friend does not really know much. Sometimes I wonder how the conversation goes in that room and how she gets paid.

Thanks guys, and yes, the article does warn about generalisations!

By the way, I have a lovely Argentine boyfriend who is neither a chamuyero nor histerico and he doesn't even have a therapist! I wrote this after hearing a lot of stories and remembering what it was like when I was dating here.

The other two parts of the series are about dating expats, so it'll be interesting to see the reaction to those pieces when they get published!
