I have the OSDE top tier health insurance plan and wondering if I should head to the dentist for cleaning etc before I head back to the USA (where I dental insurance but still have a hefty co-pay).

What are dentists like here? And does anyone know of an English speaking dentist?

Dear SD,

Here are three dental practices who have websites and at least two have a price list.

Dentistry is horrendously expensive in the states. I plan to have some work done in BA when I am there in October. With OSDE and a DNI you should be able to get it done cheaper than I will and I will still save money. Tom of Tom and Nancy recommends Dr. Pelcman at the top of my list. Good luck.

I use the Drs. Pelzman. Have only needed teeth cleaning , thankfully, but I certainly would feel comfortable going to them for complex needs.
An aside, I'm curious, is laughing gas legal/used here by dentists? If I needed big time dental work I'd probably want some of that!

Laughing gas isn't legal in Argentina unless an anastesiologo is present. I would definitely have dental work done in Argentina. I had root canal done in the US recently with bad x-rays and bruises all over my cheek for $1,800 US, and a good root canal costs $2,200 US and the crown $2,500 US. Dr. Pelcman is also licensed to practice dentistry in the US. I believe in California, if I'm not mistaken. Or maybe I'm thinking of Pennsylvania.

I had an implant done in Argentina many years ago and it was successful (I was careful to choose a top specialist). I plan on having another one done soon. For cleaning, though, I find the job done in Argentina to be superficial.

I wait until I return to Argentina to use the dentist. The one I have is excellent, teaches at UBA, has never recommended an unnecessary procedure, and it is cheaper for me to pay cash here than with my copay in the US.

So what's his name ?
Thank you.

If you go there will be trouble.
If you wait it will be double!

Drs Pelcman are great for implants etc, but general care not so good (i.e. teeth cleaning).
Nancy
