I was astonished to hear on TV last night that maple syrup will be among the items contained in the $85,000 swag bags being handed out to Oscar winners tomorrow. When did maple syrup go from being a condiment/cooking ingredient to a luxury item? I'm a Canadian and I did not get this memo.
