Disappointed with Food in Argentina

much like the large chain stores in the area of my farm in Washington State.
Home Depot there sells plastic kitchen faucets, "chrome plated", and my local Target and Fred Meyer stores have lookalikes to name brands...
And Walmart, which has failed I think twice to penetrate the Argentine market, sells vietnamese jeans and indonesian t shirts.
That is, besides the 60% of their products that are from China.

However if you drive up past where Cabildo starts changing its name, there are plenty of very expensive stores selling imported things like Audis and 500,000 peso tennis rackets. And on weekend mornings in the eco reserva, you can see lots of three thousand dollar bicycles riding by.

The food issue is simple- most argentines like argentine food, not hot sauce or maple syrup.
If they liked those things, you would find them here.
I see hams from Spain that come in their own zippered cloth suitcase, which sell for $400 to $500 USD for an entire bone in iberico.
Argentines buy those, not tourists.
If its something they want badly enough, be it expensive makeup, apple watches, or limited edition nikes, somebody here sells it, and somebody here buys it.
Obviously it's a question of what the market will bear, Most people have very low incomes so they cannot afford better quality items that cost a lot. The market for luxury items is extremely small, though it may look relatively large in Recoleta and parts of Bario Norte. Pricing however is bizarre. Why, for example, is a brie type cheese produced in Argentina more expensive than French brie exported to the US?

the big feria at the Universidad de Agronomia is this weekend. Should be good carrots there. Its NOT in Recoleta or Barrio Norte...

Im in the general area and often go to this feria! It's great! It happens once a month.

Fresh eggs, veggies, fruit and artisenal breads are the best here. Also there are some food trucks in the corner near the zamudio entrance. Had a great bondiola sandwich that was worth the money.

A note to all wanting to go... About 40-50% of the stalls offer promos with ridiculous savings if you pay with Cuenta DNI and about 10% offer discounts for cash.

I would say, go on the Saturday to get the best quality goods but they don't ever run out.

Also, some of our more conservative pearl clutching members must be prepared for more bohemian people selling their wares (tie dyes, insence, crystals and rocks, and cbd and thc products for our more stuck up conservatives) although I doubt most of them know their way out of the city centre😏.

Hey Konner, I don't mean to be a boer but if it's not an imposition, could you please keep an eye out at the feria for a ceramic figurine of Die Groot Krokodil which I'd like to add to my collection? I'd go myself but am unfortunately tied up this weekend. Thanks.

What are you even trying to say? I don't think you even know. Here this may be more appropriate than a feria. In the same area.

A great carrot should be smooth and easy to peel. Argentina carrots are like the surface of the moon, full of craters and deformation.

They should be bright and vibrant. Argentine carrots are dull and dirty, like they tried to commit suicide by diving off the truck into the dirt

They should be firm yet juicy. Argentina carrots are somehow rubbery and dry at the same time

How about a fruit we don’t fecking like:
There’s actually a country that offers refuge to the followers, admirers, and I dare say, groupies of the big crocodile, with a total of 7500 visas almost exclusively for them:

So if that’s what you pine after, you could totally go… Oh! Wait!!

You're a little late to the party. Botha has not been president since 1984.

I fail to understand what South Africa has to do with food in Argentina.
There are Russian food stores and restaurants here now, along with Korean, Japanese, and Chinese, but as far as I know, no South African cuisine or ingredients.
