You're welcome, it is what it is. I think you could suck them up with a straw. We have a 24hr migas sandwich place here in our village in ZN. I do have one from time to time, maybe once in 6 months when nothing else seems appetising. We have a 24h Iceland ice cream parlour too. Argentineans have priorities in life. That made me laugh![]()
I AM currently in Australia and theirr sandwiches are by far r the Best in the world . What is increÃble is that they are much cheaper than Argentina even though the minimum wage is the highest in the planet. You can find in any 7 11 here great parmigana sandwiches egg and bacon rolls for less than 5 dollars usa . banh mii a amazing vietnamese sandwich of chicken vegetables and sauces served on a baguette can be found un the mornings for 3 dollars usa and it's extremely filling .Welcome to Argentina, where this kind of processed shit is a national staple and quality cuisine. Says it all. View attachment 10730
I’m tetchy as I just got back from a week in Uruguay where eating is SO MUCH EASIER. You can get decent French baguette bread in any express/convenience store, and there’s a massive variety of fresh ready-to-eat food in the supermarkets.
It always floors me when I have to adapt again to Argentina after being in another country, the time and patience you need to eat here.
If I have to taste one more "guacamole" with parsley I'm going to cry. Do you see me making an asado with tofu patties? Sticking SPAM in a bun and calling it a lomito? Just call your nasty sauce "watery palta paste with a hint of lemon" and stop deceiving people. It's culturally offensive really...Argentinians DO NOT LIKE CILANTRO. Argentinians prefer parsley as they are DESCENDED FROM THE BOATS, unlike the undifferentiated cilantro loving grubby Bolivian, Chilean, and Peruvian cholos.
You can, of course, find cilantro, mostly quite fresh, stored in a fridge, at the back of your neighbourhood veggie stand (mostly run by Bolivians anyway). Cilantro really needs to be fresh, as a dying cilantro stalk will desperately wrap itself around its healthy neighbour. Wrap in damp tissue to store at home in the fridge.
Peruvian restaurants are possibly the best CABA has to offer. Maybe you need cilantro and some dirt to make things taste good.
Don’t be a pushover. Don’t be tetchy (the sandwiches for people without teeth had me going for a while, but whatever). You can find most things here with a little persistence. When the going gets tough, the tough get going, right?
on George street sydney Hanói takeaway next to Town hall station . Bahn Mi half price 8am to 10 am Normal price 8 aus dollars sale price 4 aus dólaresI am also in Australia at the moment. I will verify the 7/11 claims in the next few days, but they seem about right.
I can, however, already report that the least I have paid for a chicken bahn mi from a shopping center food court (I would think the cheapest, faster option available anywhere) is AUD 11.90, USD 8.00 at today's exchange rate, or 12,000 pesos. The same product can be bought at Paraguay 2033, today, for 12,500 pesos: https://www.instagram.com/banhmi.company/?hl=es.
(If you can even find the smallest serve of french fries, let alone a delicious baguette, for the equivalent of USD 3.00, let me know where please. I'm hungry because I can barely afford to eat here.)
Celery seed is a good alternative if you want to add celery flavor to soups. It's sold by the plant, which is probably a natural way of dividing up the product... we get 2-3 per week for 2-3 people and never have problems using it all. It goes into soups and stews (reduces the amount of salt needed), salads, stir-fries in the wok, smoothies (blended with say spinach, mint and apple). The fibres might be annoying but you can strip them easily with a knife.
Eat your veggies!
It also adds umami.Celery seed is a good alternative if you want to add celery flavor to soups.
I think some places might use cremoso as a cheaper alternative if it doesn't explicity say mozzarella, but I'm not sure.Would add only one comment about the cheese quality in pizzas, Empanadas and tostados. The cheese is like a piece of Rubber that makes you choke one piece in your mouth still connected to the other down your throat. Must cut pieces of the cheese to swallow it. Different mozzarella ??
