so, after just 2.5 years of tramiterío, I’ve got the plastic in hand. A very kind lady handing over this document in renaper advised me that I should apply for extension before too long. It will expire in 6 months and if I apply over 2 months before expiry, it will be much easier, otherwise I’ll have to go through the whole process again…

It wouldn’t be the first time when officials say things that is their personal opinion and have absolutely nothing to do with the process, migraciones did that in 80% of time.

But, if there’s anyone that has any info that would resemble this with regards to temp DNI renewal, I’d appreciate insights.

My current understanding is that the two months she was talking about are coming from the requirement for DNI renewal to “regularise residence situation” with migraciones if my residence is to expire within 60 days. But in this case her advise is pretty useless, as if I apply more than 60 days in advance, even though I wouldn’t have the requirement to go to migraciones, my current residence is still about to expire in 2 months and a bit and the new dni will not be any longer than the old one

I just did my first renewal of temp residency (as a student) last week and submitted my application to Migraciones to get a turno about a week before my DNI expired. As far as I can tell the only difference is I had to pay an extra 50.000 for an expedited turno because of the 60 days thing.

One thing to note is the RADEX form I submitted to get my turno was for the prórroga, but it made me send in all the documents for the initial residency, not the ones specific to just the renewal. There were a couple of differences and this threw me for a loop right as I thought I was done, so prepare for that! I brought all the docs for both to the turno and who knows what they actually wanted.
