DNI stuck in Correo Argentino

Hi everyone

I've looked through various posts and couldn't find the answer I was looking for, hopefully someone will have had experience with this.

I've had my physical DNI card stuck in Correo Argentino since the 17th July. The status of the tramite hasn't changed since it arrived, it simply says "Ingreso al correo". It says on the tracking: "Planta: CTP BUE-PAS". I've read online that this means at a distribution centre which isn't open to the public. According to a source on ChatGPT, it is possible to go to a local branch of correo argentino in person and make a complaint.

I've tried calling the customer service on various occasions and can never get through to them. Does anyone have any advice or experience on what to do here? It's for a first time temporary residency, if that changes anything.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I often go to my local Correo Argentino office to retrieve packages that I have sent to that street address. They are always helpful, and once did reroute a package that was being sent to my home by mistake. DNI might not have that local office pickup option, but they should be able to help in some way.

A friend of mine is having this exact same issue. She contacted Renaper and while it still says her DNI is at correo on the correo website with the same exact phrasing you explain: "Planta: CTP BUE-PAS." Renaper told her it was back at their office now (on Paseo Colón in San Telmo) and she would have to make an appointment to go pick it up there now. She's going this week, I'll report back if she's had success retrieving it. But, worth trying to contact Renaper to see if they say it's back with them. I've heard a lot of complaints this year that Correo hasn't even tried to deliver the DNIs and just sends them back to Renaper and folks have been having to trek there to pick them up.

It would be nice if you could just elect to pick it up from Renaper from the start without having to deal with correo -- I recently spent an infuriating amount of $ on phone credit trying to talk with the correo people to identify a time when they could deliver it after I wasn't home on their first few attempts.

I'd say just go to Renaper and make a new one express, they're cheap and it'll probably save you the hassle of whatever happened to the old one

Hi Everyone

Just an update regarding this. I emailed Renaper and they said my DNI had been returned to them from Correo Argentina and they I could come and pick it up. Went today, only needed my tramite number and no other documentation. Was in and out in 10 minutes, all very easy.

I just found out today the exact same thing happened to mine- it was sent to Correo, and then, sent back to Renaper, and its waiting for me there. Why they just dont give you a choice of pickup or mail is beyond me.
Not being around to sign for mail is not just an expat problem- many argentines live in buildings without encargados, and are not home when the mailman comes by.

My friend was there Thursday, also. And she said she'd have rather just went there to pick it up in the first place, too. She works from home and is fairly certain the post never even attempted to deliver it to her apartment. She never saw a slip left for her saying there was an attempt. She also said it took her five minutes max to collect it from Renaper. She was shocked at the speed and efficiency and was expecting to wait hours from the reviews she'd read on Google. Maybe in the future they'll allow a choice for folks. Seems easier for everyone involved if some of us prefer to just glide on over to an office instead of being held captive by Correo Argentina. haha.

If the DNI is not received at home by either the person on whose name is issues the DNI or by another person holding the slip issued with qr code to display to the postman, it - DNI goes to a special centre where all DNI not delivered by post are kept. its not a post office not a migraciones office. Its like a very special warehouse. At least i saw one in Belgrano. It has no bells or anything or a phone. One has to go there and wait outside the gate hoping someone will open the door. once they do, they will take that slip with qr code and give you your dni in the sealed envelope. i had waited for 4-5 hours for the door to open. This was in 2024.

luckily they now send them all to the place in San Telmo.
