Smcali23- You made me smile just now :)

Your "nomination" is very much appreciated (I didn't even know we were voting! ;)), but I could never be "president" (or even first lady) of any thing or any place, not even here. Far too many scandalous skeletons in my closet (I'll just let you sit there and ponder for a moment what those might be...)

Un saludo cordial!

No, I do not hate Buenos Aires. Yes, I sometimes like to complain about Buenos Aires, as complaining is in human's nature. Gee, imagine we could not complain anymore, because some people cannot handle criticism. I have to tell these people a harsh truth: reality does not adapt to your wishes, you have to adapt to reality or suffer. And because complaints sound bad does not mean they are bad. I rather enjoy sarcasm as a way to put things in perspective than ignoring all problems with a smile. Complaints arise from a concern that things can be done better, which is more constructive than pretending everything is perfect. People complaining about Buenos Aires does not imply them hating Buenos Aires. If you think it does, you must be a melodramatic cry baby. The melodrama is not worth any attention as it is a source of more complaining, not less.

I mean invest my personal life, choose to start my family here at the cost of being separated from my own "real" family back in the States.

Every investment has risk and I hope you understand the risk in your investment. Should things go south for whatever unforeseeable reason with your spouse, you will not be able to move from Argentina for 18 years unless you plan to abandon your child. That's such an incredibly high risk to run that I seriously hope that you foresee massive returns from this investment vs comparable opportunities with less risk.

For all my qualms as a consequence of still choosing to live here after all this time, you know what? I'd even say that I love Argentina more than a lot of Argentines that I know. But I will not and cannot validate a faceless Argentine using an anonymous screen name hiding behind the safety of the world wide web making snide and oversimplified hit-the-victim-and-run comments who comes looking for a confrontation by asking, "If you all hate Argentina so much, why don't you all just leave?" Yes, that was an intentional and direct hit, make no mistake. Oh, and Lauren is my real name, I've got nothing to hide or not own and back up. Anyway....

Seiously? You've got some major passive-agressive psychological issues, my friend. I can't recognize your words, and even giving the most clear-cut, coherent, elaborate, and genuine response would only be al pedo. C'mon! You've already made up your mind about an entire (and very sizable and diverse, I might add) population.

I'm not saying that ALL Argentines can seriously be that narrow minded and foolish, but all PEOPLE in the world who would really think like that and act like that are the reason why their country is the way it is.

Respect.

I was gonna "like" your post until i read those last paragraphs  are they directed at me??

Cause it actually looks like you didnt understand what i meant at all?? In my post i was the first to criticize my country, actually, that "lack of patriotism" and overall not love for the country you mention its a clear trait of argentines. And i also agree with you that extreme disinterest to our own country is one of the things that just keeps this country from growing.

And where i made up my mind about an entire population? wasnt it the other way around, actually?? There are specific posters that are just plain bashing and hating in everything, and this forum have been somehow hijacked by their attitude. I was not putting you all together in the same bag (like we say here), on the contrary, i was thankful for the nice responses and actually explained what i was talking about. You saying that i made up my mind about an entire population   actually makes no sense, if you read my posts. Its like you read it all backwards, i was actually asking to people NOT TO MAKE UP THEIR MIND ABOUT AN ENTIRE POPULATION. Specially if that means everything in argentina is just plain awful. How would you feel if some people would say everything in USA is crap and would write millons of posts bashing any attempt from anyone to say one little good thing about this country?

I was actually asking to let people who like some things about this country, to express themselves. Like the guy that said pizza was good and got bashed and laugh at, that was one example of what i meant.

Narrow minded? foolish?? Isnt narrow minded to automatically hate something cause it comes from X country? In my thread, i was actually asking people to NOT be that narrow minded and to allow other views appart from the "BA is all negative" view.

wow, i cant believe you read my post THAT wrong. Is like you took everything i said and made it mean exactly the opposite!

The problem with people who are all the time complaining about things is that it is contagious, in a short period if you read them you will be complaining as well and more time you pass with them more bitter of a person you will become, Even When it maybe not Affecting you or is Affecting positively and you should be happy, that's because people have the ability of empathy that help us putting in the position of the other but when you get to involve in a forum that is all the time complaining then this same ability play you in a negative way and make you feel as if that would be happening to you in other words more miserable, example blue dollars ,there is people that is getting benefited with it but when i talk to that people about it they get stressed, if you are one of the person That Get influenced in a negative way of course is Normal that you complain but try to not let it Affect you personally, Because just complaining and bitching is not going to Improve Your situation in the opposite it will just make you more miserable. (i know is maybe not the best example but don't let you be distracted with the example just try to understand the content of the msg), Probably all of you before the wave of complains where not so bitters about everything but i'm sure that now you complain about stuff that you would never complain before ;)

That why i suggest some time to not read this forum so much (unless it get more positive and less temperamental) just extract the useful info you need and get away from here if you are new specially, as if you read this forum long enough you could finish thinking that you are in Irak in the middle of the war, in other words it going to make your day darker than it was : (

Try to be more positive (don't become so porteños :p ) about thing if you cannot then you have learn nothing of your life trip chill out and try to enjoy, don't complain about everything unless that is the thing that make you enjoy life and that is quite sad lol

Lauren, I originally only read the first two paragraphs of your post and assumed it was awesome, but now I too am very confused. Who are you accusing of being a faceless Argentine using an anonymous screen name? Surely it can't be Chicaargentina who identified herself by first name in her first post. Do you mean me? I don't think that's possible either because that would make my entire posting history (and "anonymous" name) an elaborate hoax. Who is this "you" in the "You've got some major passive-agressive psychological issues..." ? "Who said if you hate Argentina so much, why don't you just leave?" It seems like your responding to statements that don't exist in either this thread or the one it's related to.

Also, Joe is my real name, but it would be ridiculous to say that that renders me somehow not anonymous. We're all as anonymous as we choose to be by design here, as we should be. I agree that that can sometimes facilitate a lowering of the quality of this forum by enabling certain elements to voice ridiculous or offensive ideas that they wouldn't have the courage (or usually, rudeness) to say in a face-to-face conversation.

Genuinely curious about who you are accusing/confronting in your first post.

Joe, I was pretty much going to make this same point. I don't get how so many people got on board with Lauren's post. Stating your first name is about as non-anonymous as it gets around here. What was Luciana supposed to do, post her full name, DNI number, telephone and address??

Also Lauren, you are misquoting Luciana. She did not say, "If you all hate Argentina so much, why don't you all just leave?", she said "If this city is SO horrible and terrible and people are so incredibly mean and rude, SO MUCH that you cant even enjoy the out of the world delicious ice creams that are made in the millon ice cream places all over the city, cause you hate everything else SO MUCH, why dont you [leave]?". This was clearly NOT directed at the entire expat community, but to a smaller group who truly have nothing positive to say, and in fact bash and ridicule anyone who does. For me, Luciana's point is clear and valid - what is the point of staying here if the place is so clearly inferior? If the comparative options so often brought up are so much better, why not take them?

And furthermore, how can it come as any surprise that we continue this bashing behavior in an open public forum and an Argentine is offended? Wow, what a shock!! I ask again, would the bashers on this forum continue this same line of rhetoric in castellano in a public bar, day after day, and not expect eventually to get punched squarely in the nose? Does saying it in English somehow make you invisible and therefore make it ok? Frankly it's a testament to Argentine patience that we don't get posts like this all the time. Who knows, maybe we do and they're censored. All things considered, Luciana's post is extremely polite and direct. "Passive aggressive" doesn't even remotely enter my mind when I read it.
