Dollar controls getting stricter

I really appreciate hearing the views of Argentines. This forum has helped me tie the history of the country to current views.

With that said, I don't agree with everything Lucas says, but I think his contributions are to be valued. I'm actually not sure if he's Argentine, but really, should it matter anyway?

Why are so many assuming that Lucas is a man? Lucas obviously has strong opinions as well as the ability to express them.

Does it take balls to do so?

In today's world women have balls, too.:D

Just look at Hilllary Clinton.

Yet, when I think about it, I have to consider the possibility that her balls used to belong to someone else.;)

Well, she's got them NOW.

(The pants, too.):p

PS: LUCAS is a username. It doesn't necessairly indicate gender.

I too appreciate the local view, especially Lucas who tries to be fair and honest in his** point of view. I agree with him that there isn't much integrity of journalism here... especially when it comes to reporting on Cristina, so I would take anything "reported" with a grain of salt. The propaganda on both sides is a little too obvious. You just have to watch the translation of speeches on TV to realize that they try to twist words the best they can against the government (I once watched live as they translated Clinton's words to mean exactly the opposite of what she said, turning a compliment into a criticism.) I'm not sure it was a mistake. :p

Now what happens when you don't trust the government (or at least have little faith in their capabilities) and you can't trust the newspapers either? I like to think that Cristina has good intentions in what she is trying to do, but I don't agree with her plan and feel likes she's building the country on a house of cards that isn't going to last. Just my opinion.

Argentina has had such bad luck with corruption and politicians that I can understand how Cristina seems like a sound leader. Without a trustworthy news source, and with many people seeing their personal lives improve (be it at the hands of short lived handouts), and all the populist rhetoric, it's easy to see why she has so much support.

** Or her. Asterisk for Steve, who although is named Steve, and has a picture of what appears to be a man, I cannot be entirely sure he is male. ;)

Just send me your email and I'll send you sufficient "proof" of my gender.:p

I may not agree with the delusions of Lucas but by jove I'll defend his right to be deluded till my last breath (or until I have to pop out for dulce de leche, whichever's first) Happy to have him and other argentines here on the forum.

at least s/he's not a raving psycho loon crowing "it's the US! it's the IMF! it's the pirates!" all day like cabrera was. Remember her? (still waiting for the BIG earthquake and the iranian war which was DEFINITELY going to happen in, erm, 2010. Maybe she meant ten past eight, in some far future year...)

This comment is probably not needed and can be deleted but I just don't understand what the hell is an argentine doing in an expats forum and worst yet, taking the contrary against everyone.

It seems Lucas has serious xenophobia issues that he should address before speaking his mind out in a place where clearly its all about foreigners points of view and not looking for a local to clear them out.

Just a thought.

It's a bit acrobatic to say "Lucas has serious xenophobia issues" & "what the hell is an argentine doing in an expats forum".
An easy answer with the same tone would be: why the hell does someone expat himself if he/she's not curious about cultural differences.

As for "taking the contrary against everyone", I have a slightly different approach.
-First, if there is indeed a main stream on the forum, there also are expats sharing some of Lucas opinions.
-Second, you might be taking the problem by the wrong end: it might indeed be the forum's main stream which is against everyone (everyone: the majority of Argentineans, the "54%"). You have to realize that it's very likely that this forum is viewed on a daily basis by 20/30/40/50 (?) silent Argentineans.
So we can at least credit Argentina for being an highly democratic country in some aspects: imagine a similar expat forum in the US or in a very rightist country like France where the expats would exchange tips about playing with the migration rules, complaining loudly about the local politics (while many of those expats won't be paying taxes) and even insulting the local President (some trolls have done that on this forum) --> those expats would soon be in the plane believe me.

That being said, I agree that we should all be alert about xenophobia (it's an expat forum) & it's a vast subject (where does it start?).

At worst, if you feel attacked by Lucas posts, you can use the Ignore function. That way, you'll read only messages going your way.

Overall, I think the forum is quite tolerant in every way & it's good the way it goes. Of course, you'll find people not liking other people coming from this or this country but that's also part of any community (not that all those people would be xenophobic/racist: I guess that in any given population you'll have a constant 5% of really racist people, others might joing in but it's rather due to sourness, loneliness, lack of cues, lack of tolerance, etc.).

Tolerance is the key!

My goodness! I don't know what to say, firstly I want to thank everyone who were kind enough to vouch for me in this slight and non event personal attack, as you know it's not the first and probably will not be the last, I really appreciate that. I'm really overwhelmed and humbled for such support, thanks all.

That been said I will clear up some concepts emanating from my posts, some of them I know are sarcastic in their tone but they are like that with an intention and the intention is to head on the point been discussed, and in essence to enhance the discussion on a debated topic. Some people perhaps feel personally attacked, but the intention is not to pursue confrontation or a personal attack but just to discuss a different point of view between adult people in a forum such as this.

As French jurist said I feel very upset when people make a light hearted accusations over a figure or situation, be this political or otherwise not knowing the facts and history of this country, and because someone told them, or hear it on the TV, or the radio, or read the titles in the newspaper think they know everything about it really are driving me nuts!.

I'm not the carrier of the truth or the ten commandments by any means it's only my point of view and as such is there exposed for everyone to decide and view if is worth to be taken seriously or to be dismiss because they think it's a joke, be it, its just my personal and humble opinion, that's all it is.

When I try to respond some of those questions I'm attacked, as many of you know some of them are fellow countryman or expats who have different points of view as mine that produce some frictions and of course from that come out some sparks. The problem arise when someone try to push his/her point of view forcefully without having any concern on others view and there is when I feel compelled not to leave that unanswered if I think in essence it's untrue or unfair I will respond back even if the other part do not like what I have to say, sorry but I will say it, its my right as its yours.

Thanks everyone for reading my badly composed and written little message.
