I don't pretend to move in such expensive circles, and I'm certainly not a gourmand, but the best I personally have been to here in BsAs was La Fonda del Polo in Las Cañitas
As far as politics/marketing, absolutely! Prior to the crash of 2007, I worked at a place called Baker's Square, which claimed to have been awarded the title of "Best Pies in America" by the American Pie Council or some such. If you went half a mile west along I-8 to Marie Callender's, they also claimed to have been chosen "Best Pies in America" by by some other silly organisation with a similar name. A little research would reveal that in both cases the entity giving the award was just a shell set up by the parent corporation of the restaurant receiving the award. At both shops the pie was indeed tasty, but it was just mass-produced corporate junkfood. Oh, and as an aside - a slice of our carrotcake contained over 1300 calories
