I work remotely for a company in NYC. Good internet is critical to my day, as is not having my shit took.

As such, I'm looking for a hotel I can stay in for a week or two while I work from home, and look for a more permanent residence (several months). From what I've read, Palermo Hollywood sounds like the spot for me, or at least the spot to begin my search.

Fierro Hotel looks incredibly nice (which is my only real indication of good internet), but I don't want to pay US$200/night if I can avoid it. I don't need niceness, I just need safety for my gear and a great internet connection (or as good as they get down here)...If that's covered, the cheaper the better.

I'm open to something monthly, I just need everything to go smoothly from when I get off the plane. I don't want to get there and have some agent tell me there was a miscommunication over the phone.

Anyone have any favorites?

I stay at AAA Apartments (http://www.aaaapartmentsba.com/)
and the internet is pretty decent. Management is very good in my opinion. I have a lot of experience with them.

But it's in Recoleta (near Alto Palermo). But might work out as a base while you look for a place in Palermo.

Good Luck, Bob

That's in Recoletta, but is certainly an option--Thanks. It looks like there are discounts for longer stays...Bonus points for use of the word "fortnight"...

Unfortunately you can't really judge how good the internet is by the niceness of the hotels here. I've stayed in a few very nice $200+ / night hotels in buenos aires and the internet barely worked, let alone being fast.

You might be better off in a temporary apartment rental. It will be cheaper, and you'll have more space and better Internet too. I have two in Palermo Hollywood if you're interested. Send me an email or private message.

I've stumbled on a number of online one-week or one month rental search sites that appear to have been designed by some kid in the 90's...These seem incredibly sketchy to me. I have a feeling I'll sign up, show up, and be dismayed at some absurd surprise. My first week in BA needs to be as smooth as glass...

smooth as glass...

good luck.

Buenos Aires is not NYC, and Argentina is not the USA.
Things will be different than what you are used to.
Some things you totally take for granted simply will not be available.
Internet service will almost never be as fast as you think it should be, and the oddities of international finance, shipping, and taxes will drive you crazy.

You can have a wonderful time in Buenos Aires, if you adapt your expectations to reality. If not, not.

1st quick lesson about Argentina.
Argentines do not like being criticized by out siders.
If our HTML and style is not up to your standards set up shop and give us lessons.

You will probably not do better than "Sleuth".
He will probably check and see if the internet is working and the water is turned on before you arrive.

Be prepared .... many things will NOT be as smooth as glass in Argentina, enjoy your visit.

I think there are a number of good services here, it's just a matter of finding them. I still like airbnb.com - great design, a lot of owners, you can pay with credit card, and reviews of all the properties to help decide. The only problem is relatively limited listings.
