Empanadas...mmmmm

A taxi driver from Tucuman recommended to me a place named La Tucumanita. There is one located at Arenales 2882 in Recoleta. I've been there a few times and the empanadas are quite good. I'm originally from California and am a big tamale fan. I was very pleased to find that this place also has tamales, and a few other things like humitas, locro, etc.

Someone who knows a fair bit about food and empanadas has recommended La Tucumanita to me. They have tamales? wow, most portenos wouldn't know what a tamal is. Should I tell where the meat inside comes from???? haha

The Best Overall empanada is From Iberico Confiteria Cordoba Av. 1399 Capital...! $130 a dozen Worth the Price.

Minced meat not cortada a cuchillo, juicy filling sort of redish, due to pimiento , excelent dow thin and not greasy.

A Good Empanada they say is.. "When you eat it the juice should burn your hand, and spot your shoe....!!"

However no Raisins or hard boiled egg !!!!

I will give them a shot and tell you what I think!

That's a very big call there Rich One. Nice place, little pricey for what it is and the coffee is so so.

I like different empanadas from different places, in my local pizzeria they do a spicey empanada which, if on the right night (depends on who is making them!) will double your beer intake. Alto picante. After that, all their other empanadas are lousy and some nights the picante is more peppery than picante. Still, on the right night it's the hottest thing I have tasted anywhere in town.

You might expect to find fine salteñas at a hole-in-the-wall in Palermo Chico, but try http://glio.com/local/dona-eulogia-palermo-buenos-aires

As usual, the carne muy picante is less than what the words would suggest, but it is flavorful.

Oh yeah - a dozen for 10 pesos. We used to order from Pizza Bum, just around the corner - I loved their chopped spicy beef. I've had better, but I'm not a huge empanada fan. I can't imagine an empanada that would make me go long distances to try them, unless I was already there :)

Of course, I just realized that a dozen for 10 pesos was only around 83 centavos. Hehe. guess i don't remember cheaper than that.
